Agree with Desailly. How can he be the captain of Chelsea? I know this is only anecdotal evidence, but in his last two CL matches he has made two stupid decisions which cost his team (or maybe it didn't since it's keeping him from the pitch).

The first one I'm talking about it of course stripping the ball from Jens Lehman and picking up the yellow.

I agree about Desailly and DeBoer but not Rui Costa. It is true that Rui has been beaten out by Kaka this year for the starting spot in Milan's eleven. But it's not because Rui has played badly. Kaka has just been superb. Rui has actually had a pretty solid season this year and played his best playing alongside Kaka in a five man midfield. I think Portugal should do the same with Deco and Rui playing behind the lone striker Pauleta.

If it's at all possible, I think Jacques Santini should start Desailly on the bench for some games at Euro 2004. I remember watching him struggle at World Cup 2002 and shudder to think what could happen to Les Bleus' title defence if he plays a full 90 minutes match after match. I feel he is the weak link in an otherwise excellent French team.

Rui Costa is still very good and can get the job done. He will start for Portugal.

So in conclusion de boer(should not be in squad even) and desailly must not start.
everyone who commented saying rui costa should start. So the midfield should b figo, rui costa, deco, costinha and younster from benefica?? . Portugal play 5 in midfield , i think rui costa and deco will get in each others way not to mention figo, unless they have some kind of understanding.

I actually think Ruio costa can be the star of Euro 2004.

Because of Kaka, he is well-rested throughout the season, but still in form.

It should be Kahn and Barthez.

I don't think you can play Deco and Rui Costa together. They both like to control the midfield with possession and would get in each other's way. Nevermind Figo the ball hog on the right wing. I expect Costa to start but look for Deco to sub in if Rui's not doing the job.
