Was that a nice nutmeg with the outside of his left foot to get through the last defender before the shot?
Yup "Due to FIFA restrictions, Rubin was not able to officially sign with the club until his 18th birthday, which arrived on March 1st. Now that the contract is signed, Utrecht can register his contract on July 1 and then Rubin will be able to play in competitive games for the club—either for the first team or its youth teams." http://americansoccernow.com/articles/for-rubio-rubin-it-s-all-about-the-red-white-amp-blue
He's with the US U-18s for the Lisbon International Tournament- http://www.soccerbyives.net/2014/06/portugal-international-tournament.html
Big news - Rubin is signed. I could be wrong here but the others who he's mentioned with look to be first-team transfer too, does that indicate this is a first-team contract?? FCUpdate.nl @FCUpdate_nl 11h Anouar Kali, Nacer Barazite en Rubio Mendez Rubin naar FC Utrecht. http://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/257780/…
It's unlikely to be an "adult" contract, which is around $450K minimum. The U-21 deals are half that.
Is there a figure for this contract that implies that it's not an adult contract? Just trying to figure out if this is professional contract like Caleb Stanko or Green.
Eredivisie has a minimum wage for the non-EU players and Utrecht would be insane to pay an 18-yo post trialist those type of wages. In Germany, clubs can pay whatever they want basically. Green is, obviously, extremely well compensated ... well, compared to your average MLS player he is ... compared to Robben, Müller and Ribery, he's a Mercedes driving pauper.
Ahh okay got it. But good thing this contract does mean he's eligible to play for the first-team I believe if they wanted. Should be an interesting season.
He should be eligible - I don't think the Dutch have roster limits - but I wouldn't expect him to with the exception of an emergency. Even Juan Agudelo, far more advanced after four years in MLS, was there mostly as a rotation striker.
I can't imagine its not a contract that will have playing with the first team relatively soon. I don't know what kind of interest that he had, but he has been one of the best YNT players for a few years now. Those top YNT guys (Flores, Redding, EPB, Akale) have signed with big clubs in Europe or have interest from those types of clubs. I don't see why Rubin wouldn't have had similar interest. Maybe European scouts didn't see great potential in him, but from what I've seen of him it seems fairly strange that he'd sign a youth academy deal with a mid-table club in the Dutch league. I'd assume that he was told his path to the first team would be quicker than at a bigger club.
Sounds like he'll be eligible to play in 1st team matches: "But on July 1, his contract will be officially registered and he will be eligible to play in matches, upping the stakes as the American pushed for first team minutes." http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/us...14/5/21/5739284/rubio-rubin-us-soccer-utrecht Note: He's also practiced with the first team before
Rubin began training today with Jong FC Utrecht, which I believe is the youth team. He was given jersey number 45. http://fcutrecht.nl/nieuws/actueel/7733/ook-jong-fc-utrecht-hervat-trainingen
Great article, great Oregon kid and he is obviously smart for figuring out that Eriedivisie is the best place for any young attacker to polish their skills.
DieKlinsMannschaft @Klinsmannschaft · 28m U20 MNT forward Rubio Rubin starts, goes 76 min, and scores 2 goals as the Utrecht reserves win their first preseason match 4-0.
This kid just keeps getting better... wonder what the chances are of him debuting for Utrecht 1st team this season
Still really young. May get his debut this season, but next season is the one we should really target for him to make an impact.
Anyone know if he's playing on the wing, or as a forward? He's bounced around both positions for the YNT, yes?
