Anyone look at the bracket? The winner of RSL's group faces the winner of the Toluca/SKC match that will be played concurrently on Monday. This is the only bracket where two winners face each other. Second place gets to play Club America. RSL needs to win tomorrow. If I'm understanding it correctly, Toluca is the higher ranked team, so if SKC wins tomorrow, RSL would host the knockout round game. As an added bonus, if STL win their group (have to get more points than Juarez ) and then beat the winner of the Leon/CRapids in the knockout round, RSL would play STL away and I'll get to attend. So I'm rooting for that.
Gomez breaks the defense down with fury and pace. RSL has only had a handful of such players over the years. He’s a huge part of why we’re good this year. He’s also super young and growing. He’ll be playing winger at a top-ish club somewhere in a year or two and people will be saying our offense is less dynamic. Look how much offense we’re seeing across the front. So many goals and assists. That happens because everyone is a threat and because Gonez can get behind the D and his defender cannot sag. Look at all his assists. I mean look at the freak cross to Julio to equalize. Chicho is not having an MVP season in isolation. Enjoy top flight talent emerging. I can’t believe what I’m reading. He’s arguably having the best season for his position in RSL history.
America having a “home field” at San Diego is pretty much a guaranteed elimination for at least the next round if not two there is a result that guarantees rsl and Houston advance But I don’t think it has an option wherein Houston finish top of the group (please correct me if I’m wrong) and thus I think we see a pretty aggressive game tonight.
Trey shared the following graphic. Only way RSL and Houston both advance is if Houston wins 2-1 or win by 1 other than a 1-0 or 2-1 result. Houston wins the group with a win tonight by more than 2 goals. #RSL scenarios https://t.co/vYR03cADqa pic.twitter.com/Z1zvTEB18H— Trey Fitz-Gerald (@3FitzSLC) August 4, 2024
I get where you're coming from and totally agree. I'm just pointing out the ONLY flaw that the kid seems to have, not always making the best decision in the moment. It's hard to do unless you're watching the game from the stands or on TV. It's an observation and concern that on a team that preaches team work, selfishness, well intended or not, can be divisive. That can be a red flag if you constantly see team mates frustrated with your shot choice. Nice guy or not. resentment can creep in over time. We all know players in team sports like soccer, or basketball, that if you pass them the ball you know you're never getting it back so you just stop passing to them. I'm not saying that he is an a-hole or anywhere near 100% a dick. I don't believe that anyone is 100% a dick. Yes, I am belaboring the point. Andres is having an incredible season and if he has anywhere he could improve his game, from what I can see, it's when to dish or keep the ball. That's about it, but it is an important thing to learn as a player in any sport. He's probably been one of the top 4 players on the team so it really is a minor point but one worth watching as he grows as a player.
So is there a situation where Houston wins the group and rsl takes second? I’m not seeing it on there. Which means I think you see this game competitively played to the last second. No matter the score, one team is not getting a result they want (not advancing or having to go to San Diego)
I don't think so. Houston would have to win by more than two goals to win the group, but if they do that then RSL will lose on the goal differential tie breaker. RSL has a +1 GD, Atlas has a 0 GD, and Houston has a -1 GD. If Houston wins then all of the teams will have a 1W - 1L record and the group will be determined by tie breakers. From the Leagues Cup website: If at the end of the Group Stage, two or more Clubs are tied in points, their position in the table would be determined according to the following tie-breaking criteria (these are only considered if the previous criterium in the list does not determine which Club advances): 1. Direct head-to-head match result between the tied Clubs (for clarity, a win in penalty kicks is a win for purposes of this tiebreaker). 2. Better goal differential between goals scored and goals conceded during the Group Stage. 3. Greater number of goals scored during the Group Stage. 4. Fewer number of goals conceded during the Group Stage. 5. Clubs Fair Play table (as defined and explained below). 6. The winner will be chosen in a draw organized by the Organizing Committee.
Here we go! Beavers Hidalgo Glad Vera Katranis Palacio Ojeda Gomez Crooks Luna Julio Bench: MacMath; Brody, Oviedo, Quinton; Caliskan, Eneli, Chang; Michel, Chicho . . . and a tenth guy named Delgado? Number 57? 21 on the roster? EDIT: He's the promoted goalkeeper. Still not sure why we are allowed 21 on the gameday roster (if we are; might be an error).
Dude scored last game and got subbed Pablo had this rotation (as well as palacio over Eneli) pre planned I think it’s the right message and decision to chicho, too. A guy can’t miss training with the team for nearly a month and then walk back into the starting lineup in a game you need a result
It still confuses me that refs are ok with rsl playing in their red against Houston’s orange as both these kits get sweaty they get closer and closer to the same look
Atlas had two entire rows of benches filled at the RioT A lot of that was staff (that fat ********…) but it seemed they had a lot of players
I think starting Palacio was a bad idea. It’s early, but our middle seems to be lacking the control Eneli provides.
If Hidalgo throws himself to the ground on that high boot the ref calls a foul Shit like that are why gamesmanship exists
I wish Houston would go back to the lighter oranger color jerseys. Not a fan of the highlighter orange.
