Wiki says: In case only two teams are tied on points, the direct head-to-head match result between the tied clubs will determine the ranking (for clarity, a victory on penalties is considered a win for purposes of this tiebreaker); In case three teams are tied on points, the following criteria will apply: Better overall goal differential between goals scored and goals conceded during the group stage; Greater number of goals scored during the group stage; Fewer number of goals conceded during the group stage; Clubs' fair-play table First yellow card: –1 point Second yellow card (indirect red card): –3 points (The first yellow card is not considered) Direct red card: –3 points Yellow card followed by a direct red card: –4 points; A draw organized by the organizing committee.
From the Leagues Cup standings page. Note, if you are still tied after tiebreaker 3 you will also be tied for tiebreaker 4. 1. Direct head-to-head match result between the tied Clubs (for clarity, a win in penalty kicks is a win for purposes of this tiebreaker). 2. Better goal differential between goals scored and goals conceded during the Group Stage. 3. Greater number of goals scored during the Group Stage. 4. Fewer number of goals conceded during the Group Stage. 5. Clubs Fair Play table (as defined and explained below). 6. The winner will be chosen in a draw organized by the Organizing Committee.
In this versino of it, if they are tied after number 2.2. then they will be tied for number 2.3, so they may as well move on to Fair Play.
Yes and no I thought they could have done better keeping it through the middle and offensive third. Can’t complain with the result This tournament is weird. Rewarding the two mls teams with playing last is just cherry on top of this not being balanced
My interpretation is that if Houston beats us by 2 or more goals we don’t advance. Any other result moves us to the group stage.
Only two other final group games are the pair of MLS teams. There is one LigaMx matchup, the rest are mixed.
Who did it better? Justen Glad assists Nelson Palacio, or Andrew Brody assists Chicho's half field goal?
Not all their players were petty little instigators, but enough of them were, and consistently so through the whole match. The ref didn’t help by not carding the players (ours too) for this stuff. What was really frustrating was how they’d go down and roll around and often get the call, where our guys played through a bunch of it and had stretches of no calls. Luna and Ojeda both got manhandled a bunch. But then suddenly the ref would start calling all that stuff for 5-10minutes, but then he’d drop off again. The restart delays and mass confrontation never were punished with a yellow. That was super frustrating.
One other thing, their left back (14) who scored their goal (which was a great goal and well taken) was getting SHREDDED all night by Gómez. Andrès beat him a couple dozen times. I have a hard time remembering Gomèz not getting around him, unless there were 2 other guys helping out.
Just judging the assist? Because the nonchalant way Chicho handled the ball before that kick is next level. But the ball will never be the same after Nelson kicked it.
Brody's, Glad could not have known he had a chance for an assist. I think he was as surprised as the rest of the 20,000 people there.
The grass was killed by the Kenny Chesney concert. Dan Farnes and his crew re-sodded that final third last week. For what they did it looks damn good.
Very interesting game. Not a fan of Atlas Unido. What a bunch of time wasters. Gomez is back to making selfish choices. I'm fine with him heading out to greener pastures at some point this season or off season. I agree he was really frustrating team mates with shots that could have been crosses for better chances. The Ref thought this was a USMNT Copa America game the way he was whistling the match. But, and this is a big but, Hidalgo should have seen red but considering his first yellow was weak I imagine Freemon cut him some slack. RSL was really, really, lucky. It was a stupid, stupid, play when you're sitting on yellow. Atlas was sitting back and RSL was struggling to break through but for the most part RSL was the better team. I did think that Atlas thought the one goal would hold up but alas, suck it. That shot from Palacio was crack a lackin' amazing. Had to leave because early day on Friday today for work but I was curious to know how the clubs like this tournament. For all of the consternation it looks like the players on both sides take this pretty seriously. It could really become quite the tournament. It get the "romance" of the US Open Cup but damn, every game between an MLS and Liga MX side seems to have tons of bite and foul minded play. I like it. As mentioned, it was very nice to watch RSL run out the clock with some serious ball control. This is a different team and I am here for it.
The Gomez take is far too much of a knee jerk reaction Especially for a guy that logged an assist last night You want him going at players, cutting in, and shooting most the time. Yeah, he should have laid one or two off. But I don’t want him to turn into crooks who seems so afraid of hurting the net he won’t shoot
I don’t think you see any rotation beyond Julio for Chicho in houston… and with Chicho not being with the team for a few weeks I’m not sure that’s the right thing to do, either
I’m off social media so missed something that happened, I think Around like the 20th min the south end went quiet and then started singing about Chiqui???
I didn't hear it, but they were probably chanting Kiki. RSL Show shared a post that Kiki Feliciano (14 year old daughter of one of the members of the Riot Brigade) passed away this week from cancer. She had been in remission for a year or two but the cancer came back.
I’m 110% confident that Gomez will never turn into a too unselfish player like Crooks. Still would be fine getting a nice payday from transferring Gomez. No players perfect and finding the balance between shooting and passing is tough. I see a young player that still needs to figure that out. It’s about becoming a more mature and well rounded player. Does he do that? Hopefully. But I see some Savarino in there and that’s worrisome. It’s really a minor complaint and more of an observation about where a great player could improve. For this RSL team selfish players can be a red flag in the locker room. Last season was had a toxic locker room and the selfish player is gone.
Being selfish on the field and being selfish off the field are two different things. The Sava thing showed he was just a dick, soccer or not. I don’t see that from Gomez. I see a kid that works his ass off both directions. If we’re going to micro examine a player on shots they took when a pass was available there isn’t a passing grade. The very best players in the world get that right probably 50-60% of the time at best. your points are valid in general, but I don’t see them as a red flag as much.
Exactly. I want a guy like him to be a little selfish. He has the skill to turn it into a goal often enough to make it worthwhile. Sure, it is frustrating at moments, but nothing about him screams primadonna. He rarely gets overly emotional and yells at the ref. He rarely simulates getting fouled. He rarely stays on the ground after being fouled. He doesn't throw his hands up in the air when someone misses a pass or he gets dispossessed. He just keeps going. Honestly, he looks like he's auditioning for a move to a bigger club at times instead of being a fully-vested teammate. But I really don't have a problem with that.
