Only team I would have rather faced was Dallas, why so negative on Portland?

the way Portland plays on the road is going to give us fits. They sit in and then wait to strike with extermely fast and talented players. Valeri is always amazing, but Blanco as been the one in recent memory that really made us fools. I don't love this matchup, but I'm not sure who else we really would have rather faced.

What a weird game, in which RSL should have lead by multiple goals, should have given up multiple goals (a playoff team scores at least two of those chances), and yet somehow got on the right side of a Ted Unkle (how the hell are there only 2 mins of stoppage in that game?!)

Because Portland has dominated RSL the last two seasons. Outscored RSL 10-2 in 4 games. Blanco and Valeri have combined for 6 goals and 4 assists in those 4 games.

I would rather have drawn LAG, Seattle, Dallas or Minnesota tbh.

So true. Portland has had our number for awhile and I just really, really, really, hate watching them play ever.

I would take Valeri in a heartbeat on our team even though he falls down as much or more than Damir. A tactic I despise. Other than that their whiny, hacky, play is ridiculous.

If the regular season is any indication of how well we'll do in the playoffs, we don't match up well against anyone at home.

It certainly feels that way even though we had 12 wins at home this season. Only LAFC with 13 had more and only ATL had the same, 12, as RSL.

I would love RSL to beat Portland but they seem to have our number.

Too bad this wasn't a year where you could slide to the East, we were really good against those teams. Though that was primarily at home and you wouldn't get home games in that previous setup so... shit.

Yeah but 100% of those "non-wins" came from a western conference playoff team.

Shit kids we are hosting a playoff match at home. By the comments on this thread you would think we lost yesterday and this was a bad thing.

Hey man I'm excited. Our matchup is one of the worst we could have got, though. Here's to hoping they play inspired and don't give up some really soft defensive mistakes like they have the last 3 weeks.

I have to agree with Georg. We are hosting a game. How many years have we grumbled about not even being in the playoffs, or having to travel?

    We are hosting!

So all we really need to do is re-write the rules and play a team from the East?

We tried that already. We won the MLS Cup. The Don and the rest of the MLS didn't like that, so we can't do that again.

they were fine with it when we did it
it's when they had FCD playing the cRapids in Toronto that things were reevaluated.

Add that to the list of nice things the cRapids have taken away.

Is it just me, or has RSL gotten a lot of favorable results on "Decision Day"?

I remember back in 2008 we needed like five games to go our way to make the playoffs and they all did. Last year we needed late goals by Houston to get us in and that happened. We needed good results this year to take 3rd in the West. And it happened again.

When did "Decision Day" go against us?

2017. We did what we needed to do (beating SKC at home) but San Jose scored two late to pip us for the last spot in the West.

But you're right, when we've needed crazy combos, we've tended to get crazy combos.

Was it 2008 or 2009 where the team put the SJ v SKC game on the Jumbotron (big screen?) after our game? We needed a positive result from that game to get in and a bunch of fans stayed in the stadium to watch the result. I want to say it was 2009.

we were on the road in 2008 making the playoffs (the ridiculous comeback to tie at the cRapids) so it had to be 2009 - we were at home against the cRapids and ran them off the field 3-0.
