Numbers can be distorted by lousy opponents. It'd be interesting to see you conduct the same analysis against playoff teams.
That would be very interesting to see. I don't have the information broken out that way but perhaps will have to go back and take a look into it.
End of year review continues with a look at shooting statistics. Who was most accurate? Who needs to shoot more? And perhaps who needs to shoot less? http://ccb1212.blogspot.com/2014/01/end-of-year-review-shooting-statistics.html
Any blogger out there interested in becoming a RSL captologist? I think we need to get a handle on this.
I've purchased two RSL caps so far, and I haven't been a fan of either of them. The bills seem a little longer than New Era caps, and they've never fit quite right. The 2009 ASG trucker cap I bought is perfect, and it's my go to cap. I'll keep studying and look into what's different between them. Count me in.
The hard thing about this is the lack of transparency in the league as a whole. We get numbers from the players association but then teams say that they are not always correct. What is really hard is that it is like pulling teeth to get information like contract length. Then you have to account for allocation money (if any) which is almost never revealed. In this regards I wish that MLS was like the NBA. There you know exactly how much someone is making and for how long. Without that exact information it is almost impossible to figure out the ins and outs of the cap.
In the final of my end of year reviews I look at my offensive ratings for the team. I was somewhat surprised about who came out on top. http://ccb1212.blogspot.com/2014/01/end-of-year-review-offensive-ratings.html
This is going to make some peoples' heads explode. I try not to admit to being a stat geek, but this could be a lot of fun.
I know it's far from the point of the thing, but.... I find it hilarious that they went to the effort of taking XANGO off of Salcedo's shirt
as for the point of the thing First thing I noticed just when clicking through: Rimando has been here a hell of a long time. That said, he has only featured in 3 USOC games. Even stranger - he has a losing record (1-2) and has never kept a clean sheet in those 3 games Next: Olave has 5 ejections in MLS play (a lot of those from early games) yet he didn't get sent off once in CCL. Borchers, on the other hand, has been sent off 2 times in 13 CCL games. The difference in officials and timing (in the case of Olave getting his early reds) is interesting to note More: In 14 CCL games Sabo has 10 goals. Yo, Sabo hater, Go ******** yourself Last 2011 was a brutal year in terms of player additions to the squad. This is the list of players that joined RSL in 2011: Artur Aghasyan (2011) Chris Agorsor (2011) Arturo Alvarez (2011) Yordany Alvarez (2011-13) Cody Arnoux (2011-12) Nico Muniz (2011-12) Donny Toia (2011) Blake Wagner (2011) Only one of those guys was worth any time and effort, really, and his whole role was just to be a cheap alternative to Beckerman when he was out. 2011 might honestly be the worst year in Garth's career. Lot of misses there
Weren't some of those additions during the summer when we had some injuries? I remember Artur (Yura's cousin) was brought in to shore up the forward lineup, but then he never cracked it.
One or two you could swing with that to have that horrible of an addition list, though, is scary. We had a great 2010 team, sure, but you have to keep getting better. You need to find a player or two each offseason, I feel, that eventually contributes. What is most shocking about the 2011 additions is that not a single one is with RSL 3 seasons later. That isn't a good thing. I know we have some good players now, but in the next year or two we'll suffer from an offseason addition list like that
^ THIS The level of soccer in MLS is improving significantly every year. If you're not getting better each year, you're REALLY falling behind.
Awesome. I was looking for the player with the most red cards (Olave) then I saw 84 on Rimando and freaked out! Wrong column!
The thing that jumped out at me was how obvious it is that Rimando is the very best keeper we've had (as if there is any doubt) and is suggestive that he's been the best keeper in this era of MLS. What I mean is his GAA is the lowest. What makes that a little surprising is that he's been here so long, so many minutes, games, years. The chances are actually kind of high over the years that one or two backup keepers could play one game and get a fortunate shutout to be the leader in GAA. I don't know if other teams are doing this kind of registry, but I'll bet it shows the occasional fortunate one game wonder shutout.
And yet, he's always passed up for any kind of discussion for keeper of the year. It's always kind of laughable when they praise some GK that steps in and performs over a couple months, yet they consistently ignore one of the most consistent, and great goalies in the MLS.
The portland love affair last year was a joke. Rimando had a career year in a hall of fame career. It was obvious how little people actually watched RSL in the media. I know a lot of people loved what Javi did last year. It was a big year for him. But if I were to pick, Rimando would be my team MVP of 2013.
I'm hoping they do a run of black Rimando jerseys, like they did before. I liked the look of the old Xango keeper's jerseys, so if the new ones were somewhat similar, that'd be one way of getting around the design of the new claret & cobalt kits. And you could have Nicky's name on the back, too.

Crunching the Numbers is back! Not many numbers to crunch yet but still some interesting stats coming out of the match. http://ccb1212.blogspot.com/2014/03/crunching-numbers-opening-night.html
In my latest blog post I take a look at crossing statistics for 2013. I found some of the numbers really interesting. http://ccb1212.blogspot.com/2014/03/statistically-speaking-crossing-ball.html
