Well, since nobody else seems intent on posting this, I figured I would.

From the most recent Grant Wahl column url:

Provided the team didn't give up much, I think it's a good trade. Dipsy's not exactly a prospect - he'll be 27 next year - but he's shown promise with the Fire, and probably has the ability to be a decent forward in MLS. Given 9 foreign player slots, I think Dipsy (and Brenes and Scott) is the perfect kind of player to use one on - a cheap guy who an expansion team has the flexibility to be able to evaluate.

When was this announced? Wow, who did RSL trade for him?

I always wanted THE TeleTubbie on our team!

from the jason kreis mlsnet.com chat

i dont see why this couldnt be true. i think that selolwane would make a great addition to rsl. i assume that they probably traded him for a draft pick, maybe 3rd or 4th round

I hope Dipsy gets the chance to blossom with you guys. Too crowded in Chicago for him. I, for one, enjoyed his play.

Anyone else think that Kreis was referring to someone other than Dipsy?

I would say this does not dis-prove the 'Mathis to RSL' rumors, but like all of the 'Kasey Keller' rumors prior to the Jason Kreis anouncement, which were wrong. It could quite possibly be someone else...

I am one that has my fingers crossed that the rumors of the Mathis move to RSL are true but I am somewhat more guarded. Has anyone seen it in print or heard Jason Kreis say that he is a "huge fan" of Mathis.

I can not recall his wording at the post-expansion draft news conference, when he was asked about the Mathis to RSL possibility, or was he asked at all?

I am not trying to rain on anyones parade. I want Mathis in an RSL uniform as much as the next person, and all indications are there, but I think the jury is still out on that one

Its simple, Mathis wants to come back to MLS because he gets no playing time in Hanover. RSL, who has the first allocation pick said they want him. IF Cleatus DOES come back to MLS, RSL will get him. As Wahl said, its 50/50 right now if this will all happen.

Why would Kreis be a big fan of someone that didn't play too much? How would he even know him well enough to be a big fan?

    good luck.

I was one who always hoped the Dip would do well here, but frankly he just doesn't seem to be very good. He is not that fast, strong, or skilled. And he isn't a tactical genius either.

I hope this one pans out for you guys.

If we really wanted Dipsy, why didn't we take him when he was free in the expansion draft? I like Dipsy, I thought he showed some promise, but why are we giving something of value for him when we could have had him for free? Even more can be said for Stewart? These were both moves we could have paid nothing for.

    Anyone agree?

I'll say it again, RSL feels (at least in Stewart's case) that a established player is better than a raw draft. I realize most ppl viewed the last few rounds of the Expansion Draft as fluff, but perhaps Stewart was really their 11 pick.

Well, not exactly. All it really means is that RSL wanted Williams and Countess before Dipsy. After Chivas picked Perez, the Fire couldn't lose anymore players in the draft. So, if they still wanted Dipsy, they'd have to trade for him.

    Now Stewart is another story.

So are they ever going to actually anounce this trade? Why hasn't it shown up on MLSnet or realsaltlake.com?

I've been told by "them" that we should look at future trades. Although they neither confirmed or denied Dipsy coming to RSL...

Perhaps it's not a done deal. Otherwise, why hasn't there been any official word on the trade? If you look at the rosters on the two team websites, Dipsy is still listed for the Fire. On the day of the expansion draft, all the players were immediately moved to their new teams' roster. Hasn't anyone heard any official news on this trade?

Personally I think Dipsy is just trade bait for RSL, thats why we have heard nothing but rumors.

Has anyone heard anymore about this rumor? I'm guessing Wahl spoke before anything was done. I seriously doubt that a trade for Dipsy would take this long to pull off. I bet this trade never happens.

That's interesting. I find it hard to believe that the main reason that the trade was pulled off the table was because word leaked out. Whatever, I wasn't too excited about him coming anyway.

Same here. The word leaking out should make no difference in Chicago's desire to sell him. That's ridiculous. Oh well, RSL won't need him.

Well I think how this went down is that RSL didn't actually "buy" Dipsy so when it went public, maybe Fire asked for more or other teams expressed interest thus changing certain elements of the trade. In any case, Dipsy is a Fire-ite still.
