Trying to answer the question about how much you should pay for a DP difference-maker in the attack?

It is by no means a perfect method but I thought it was interesting to see as RSL needs to add a DP this window.

So I took the Goal Contribution list from last season and matched it with the transfer fees paid for those players. Grouped into four tiers of 17 players. (68 total to try to capture most of the starters that are relied on to score/assist goals)

    Elite Tier: 58-20 G+A
    Average Transfer Fee: $4.41M

    Good Tier: 20-16 G+A
    Average Transfer Fee: $3.76M

    OK Tier: 16-12 G+A
    Average Transfer Fee: $3.59M

Bottom of the Starters Tier: 12-11 G+A
    Average Transfer Fee: $2.28M

Obviously the averages mean that the range is anywhere from $0 to +$10m. But just interesting to me to see kind of what a certain fee could get you.

Nice work. I'm mostly concerned about the DP salary. They need to not mess around and just pay for production.
For the in league target, it's Cuypers from Chicago. He's probably available as they are adding some random guy to come play the 9 for them.

Can you add context to these? Median salary especially, but also foreign vs domestic ratio, new to league vs history of league, etc

You had me at CB. I would imagine it would have to be a really, really, good CB for them to make that kind of move. I have not been sold on the CB corps at RSL for a long time.

They just brought in Saba so do they go with a more defensive DP? I am not convinced that Morgan is the guy that is going to be the man for RSL. He is an incredible piece so I would want to see them bring in an out and out goal scorer to have Morgan and company feed him ball after ball in on goal.

I will honestly be surprised if players leave before the end of the season without serious compensation.

Fun time to be an RSL fan, that's for sure.

Unfortunately I don’t have a quick way to get salary numbers in there, but domestic I can do:

    Elite Tier: 58-20 G+A
    1 American

    Good Tier: 20-16 G+A
    3 Americans

    OK Tier: 16-12 G+A
    3 Americans

Bottom of the Starters Tier: 12-11 G+A
    5 Americans

For the recency in the league, I don’t really have that, but I did just take whatever transfer fee got them to the team they played for last year.

Just always kills me when I am reminded that last season,
Musovski and Rusnak had 20 each.
    Iloski had 19
    Chicho 16

We need a Haaland type player who would keep the opponents backline from pushing up and would just feast on Morgan’s through balls.

Chicho immediately made an impact when he joined mid-season.

Name a single team in the world that wouldn’t benefit from haaland

Bayern might be the only one, but only for a little while. Harry Kane isn't getting any younger.

I didn’t say Haaland. I said a Haaland type of player. But I would also take Haaland.

RSL of course. He would be coming in mid season, he would have to adjust to the altitude. He would have to prove it in practice before Pablo would get him out on the pitch. He would have to show some leadership skills on and off the pitch. So yeah, about 4 games at the end of the season. But the sprint next season, look out! lol

Fair. I misread that. But that type of player (massive frame, decent speed, lethal finishing) is a combo every team would want too

I think that is the type of frame and physical presence that we hoped Olatunji would bring.

Alas, his touch is sooooooo poor.

I love Morgan and Solans and Gozo. I could see an upgrade in the midfield Attacking mid especially if we sell Lunas contract.

CB does feel like the weakest spot outside of tweaking and upgrading full back.

I don’t subscribe to Doyle’s substack, but I’m seeing this guy having a precipitous drop in value about 3years ago and is currently on his 2nd stint without a club. Any insight? Injury? Flop?

Doyle says he's had a couple knee injuries. This could be Nedum or it could be Rossi as far as imported players RSL has tried.

This is good. What he says about missing out on the world cup sounds like someone processing grief. It must have been incredibly hard on him, and I hope he's not just saying this stuff about approaching it the right way.

I thought I'd be worn out by soccer at the end of the cup, and in some ways I am, but I'm really looking forward to watching Luna and RSL play again. It's been a long break.

Very nice but I would not expect Emeka to make any kind of impact until late in the season, if at all. Caliskan sat him down before the injury and he is a solid starter with Stijn now. Dillon has also done a nice job, at least for Pablo, so Eneli will be a luxury but with the condensed and multiple games a week schedule he should get time. You would think.

Pablo Ruiz is also in that mix as well so something has to give. Maybe a trade?
