They keep saying 8 figures, so I don’t think they sell until they get at least Andres Gomez-like numbers.
I just hope Gozo realizes that lots of these kids that leave MLS don't go to successful situations. I'd rather RSL take less if it means a better situation for Gozo. I just don't know how you know that in advance.
It would shock me if Gozo doesn’t have this humility and understanding. One of the defining features of him is that while on the field he carries a swagger, he is a humble and diligent kid off the field. I’d expect someone who has that arrogance to not eat dinner with their mom or do chores at home. And while I am not a subscriber to his religion of choice, it’s hard to not acknowledge it’s playing a factor
He is an absolutely decent human being. In the last couple years I have had the opportunity to ask him questions in the pre-season, practice, after games, he hasn't changed a bit. It hasn't gone to his head in any way. It's been rather fun to watch. His upbringing, religion aside, has probably all to do with his maturity and composure. However his parents did it, they have raised a kind and humble human. The soccer stuff seems secondary. He seems like the kind of kid that would excel in whatever it is wanted to do. Soccer, band camp, checkers, he's just a nice person. Fortunately for RSL this team is filled with them this year. I was talking to one of the folks on the communication team and he said that it's true, this is a really good group of players. They don't give them any grief and are very easy to work with.
This last part is what irritates me so much about how Trey ALWAYS says the locker room is tight knit. Every year. Without fail. He will mention it’s one of the best. It’s a lie. And it makes years like this - where it appears it really is the right balance - not get the recognition it deserves externally
The high number is surely to indicate we dont want to repeat the Gomez situation without being blown away by an offer.
On the radio broadcast on Saturday, David James said something to the effect of, "the only thing RSL fans haven't like about Gozo is his desire to move to Europe," and I thought that was off the mark. I haven't heard Gozo say anything publicly about leaving the team, getting out, or moving to the next level. Or even anything that's suggested he's focused on anything besides RSL. He's been so great on and off the field, I feel like he could teach a class on player comportment. I should probably give DJ some slack, because he was just telling a joke, but I don't like him, and earlier in the broadcast, he said that Solans was from Latvia. Which is also wrong, but in a weird way.
It's coming from Gozo himself. https://en.as.com/soccer/zavier-gozo-the-american-gem-who-will-move-to-europe-this-summer-f202604-n/
Would you read this quote as wanting to move in 2026 post World Cup or after the sprint 2027 season? “I want to continue with Real Salt Lake for the next two months, and in the next summer window I would obviously like to go to Europe. It’s been my dream forever, and I think it’s the right time to take that step,” the young American said in an interview with Major League Soccer.
That sounds like this summer to me but either way I don't really mind him having our expressing a desire to move on. I would prefer he stay all season but with the amount that RSL has been investing in the team to ditch or pick up players, I would imagine we might see a pretty decent move in the next summer window whether Gozo stays or goes. I agree the deal has to be substantial for RSL to just let him go but if that is the case i would expect them to bring a a player to match what Gozo is bringing to the club. It would solidify that we might actually be in a new era of growth and success with the club and ownership. At least the effort should be there as they make roster moves.
I'm a semantics person. This summer is this coming summer. Next summer is 2027. Not everyone thinks/speaks this way. I don't know what he wants. I think he needs to leave in a summer window, personally.
Yea but I think when he says he wants to help RSL for the next two months and then brings up a summer window it would be logical to assume that's the next summer window. Either way I am excited to see what he does whichever semantical window he gets his transfer to Europe.

I hadn't seen that. I'll amend my previous statement to being, Gozo hasn't been repeated public statements about wanting to leave the team, and he's seemed focused on his play.
"Next Summer" can be ambiguous, but he literally said "for 2 months" which I think adds a lot of clarity. Am I taking crazy pills here?
He’s obviously talking about the 2026 summer transfer window. That interview was in April. 2 months gives you May and June with RSL. Then hit the summer transfer window in July. There won’t be any RSL matches in June but he’ll still train with RSL.
The Gozo situation presents a realistic vision of what the Academy role in the business plan will be. Our Academy can’t mirror the European academy model. When it does produce a valuable product like Gozo your organization and league doesn’t sit on top of the prestige and money roll lists. That valuable product you produced will want to fry bigger fish. You sell the product for what you deem to be an acceptable price. Then hope he does well, making the Academy more attractive. Another aspect is that the academy will from time to time produce capable MLS talent who can contribute to your senior club and that you can afford to keep around for more than 2 seasons of productivity.
Weird to have Palacio return tbh Then again it has been weird to have Marczuk come back. We should be done with both experiments and move to the next youth prospects.
Bogert tweeted that Luna and Gozo have been informed they will not be included on the USMNT for the World Cup.
I suddenly find myself not caring as much whether the US plays in the Round of 16 game I have tickets for.
The only possible caveat here is the us leaked this info to see how bad damage control would be. Picking Reyna over Luna or Gozo is a wildly stupid move if true
So, this seems like pretty big news. Maybe Vancouver is losing some FO talent as their future is uncertain. Thanks @jaykoz3 NEWS: #RSL has appointed Nikos Overheul as Head of Recruitment. Nikos was the #VWFC Whitecaps Recruitment head and has worked with organizations such as Brentford and Midtjylland (Denmark). pic.twitter.com/DrjR2E3ENX— David Dillman (@david97dillman) May 22, 2026
