Maybe he can inconveniently get a “lower body injury.” I remember Yura had a cast on his arm right before he was traded away the first time.
Yuras first transfer was a ********ing nightmare I don’t remember a faux injury but that aligns with the shenanigans that went on
Congrats to CP and anyone that beats Man City. Obviously. But, I could not watch CP for very long with their "style" of play. Granted that's how you have to play to beat a team like Man City but still. Sitting behind the ball with only 20% possession would drive me nuts. If it works great, but It's a lot like watching a team that is great between the boxes and can't figure out how to score a goal so touche.
Absolutely! So happy for them. I was so rooting for them. I just couldn't do it game in and game out. Last ditch defending is way to stressful. Not really dissing. I watched the second half, after the U5 West United Rec Side, the Black Tarantulas, ended their dominating season of "hey coach he's pushing me", "did you know scorpions are venomous?", "I don't want to be blue", "I can't play, I broke my pinky" (pointing at his thumb), "I can't practice, I broke my ankle", "it was my turn!", and a whole lot of exasperated parents trying to get their kids to head the right direction, stop holding hands, get off the hill, quit crying, that was a great goal now try and score in the right goal, but so sad it's over. Unlike watching RSL play. At least you would have a reason to cry.
They don’t always play like that, so I was willing to give it a pass. As Ish said, 100 years of suffering I’d watch paint dry.
The discussion on player development and how Luna did things differently is fascinating. Directly conflicts with the Academy and MLSNP. There's no one answer, but endless discussion on what's best for a club. Great stuff. Also, enjoy Luna while he's here folks, it won't be much longer. I'll enjoy rooting for him for the US and wherever he goes.
We chatted with Scott Omer from the Designated Pundits and we talk about the RSL roster. I thought it was interesting.
Just listened. Sorry I’m not using YouTube, because it is hard to stream while taking my dog on a walk. He had good things to say, and I feel like I’m pretty inline with a bunch of his thoughts. I know you ran long, but it would have been interesting to hear his Pablo Ruiz thoughts.
So, what do we make of Pablo's comments yesterday that the new ownership isn't as interested in selling players?
That’s dumb as hell But entirely unsurprising. This is the millers. The unique nature of soccer has to sound like a bastardized version of communism and extreme capitalism to them
Maybe it's just a question of degree? The Blitzer group was so interested in selling players that they sold off a key offensive component midseason, before he had a chance to win us any hardware. The Millers are more interested in waiting to sell so that the competitiveness of the team isn't threatened. Maybe. That'd be okay.
This is how I took it. They are in less of a rush to move at a profit if the team is succeeding with/because of that player.
But the main world transfer window is in the middle of the MLS season. If the Millers were in charge last year and didn't take that offer for Gomez, that'd be really dumb. I want them to spend money on the team, but you have to make money first. I'd rather they make money from selling players than have fans foot the bill. We'll see though, Pablo definitely didn't explain that one in detail.
I disagree. Players move in the winter window, and potentially taking a discount on selling a player like Gomez could be worth the benefit to the team in the meantime. The team, player, agent all need to be on the same page with respect to timing, though. I don't think Andres would have played hard the rest of the season last year if he'd been suddenly told in April that we were keeping him through the fall.
You're making my point. The offer may not have been there after the season either. There's no reason RSL can't be more like Columbus though. Successful teams make better players, better players are worth more and you can sell players to make room for the next players you're bringing in/developing. You have to spend money all around though. You can't be like Montreal.
I loathe the revisionist history that is spewed about Gomez and his “drop in form” ahead of the transfer. Often in the same arguments that selling him was bad for the club. It can’t be both. the extremely difficult thing is you don’t get any type of award or trophy for player development. Was it frustrating to watch a team that seemed unbeatable in the first half of the season fall apart so spectacularly? Of course. Do I think it hinged on selling Gomez? ******** no. Ignoring that Chicho - the captain of the team - completely rocked the squad with personal stupidity is insane to me. Vilifying ownership for doing what they said they’d do while ignoring what happened within the squad is dumb as hell
