My boys and I were counting feom the sidelines and we lost 9 of our first 10 VARs. Red card to Luna that was rescinded. That Dallas elbow to the head from the player who ultimately won the game with the header. We led the league in yellows and red cards (tied) and were at the back of the pack on PKs. Cincinatti got a million PKs on touch fouls. The refs influenced the first half of the season for sure. It evened out as the season went on but there were lots of boo birds (with reason) Those first 10 games. We the difference between play in and not was 1 point tre isnt wrong. Having said that, the Kurt pickups (kinda), the Eneli usage, the lack of a striker going in to the season while knowing about the chicho saga 4 months before, the lack of ability to be dangerous on corners and crosses, the Pablo defensive lock down sieve, etc were all not on the refs.
9 of 10 VARs remembering that when the VAR is used it is because there is something obvious and the refs agreed or disagreed against us 90% of the time often times over ruling the clear and obvious from the VAR teams. We felt hosed for the first 3rd of the season and frankly we are still bitter about a few of them.
I just listened to it. The only thing that piqued my interest were the mentions of a new scouting and recruiting setup. I want to know more. I was disappointed in the theme that the team was better than it showed. I’m strongly ensconced in the attitude in sports that your record is who you are. There’s really no way to sugar coat our record. Losing was the biggest descriptor of our team this season. And I think Loser is the most accurate judgement. That might be harsh, and I certainly don’t like going there.
I'm glad to hear that that the club recognizes that they need to invest in the whole club and not just players. They're likely never going to get the big name players. They'll probably never have a top 30 salary player. If they can make everything else about the club (facilities, personnel, support, etc) elite, then they have a chance of hanging with the big boys time to time if they get the player development part right. Sucks we're still working on so much of the fundamental club building aspects when the 22nd season of RSL is upcoming.
Did we tie for red cards? We had 6 (6!) red cards this season. For whatever reason mls stats page doesn’t count second yellows as reds, or rescinded cards as reds or players who got a red card and then transferred to a new team.
Doyle says the Crew should bring Eneli home. Hard to argue against it if he's not your starter anymore. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/what...s-nashville-portland-seattle-out-in-round-one If one of the best clubs in the league wants one of your key young players, maybe you shouldn't let them go?
But we have caliskan It would be moronic to move Eneli for cheap. It would be worth a listen if the Crew were willing to trade someone of equal talent
I'm kind of intrigued with buying low on Gazdag, but he's a DP and Goncalves would have to go. Not sure there's much that interests me outside of Farsi, but I don't know how he fits. How do we value Eneli in a cashfer deal? $2m?
If I am Eneli I am begging for this trade even with Nancy probably out the door. CBus will probably go out and find a similarly talented HC and not just the assistant to the HC. Unless he's a Nancy prodigy. That option has to be better than what he would have here with the ever changing expectations with Pablo whose ideas, tactics, and expectations seem to morph like sand on the beach with every change in the tide. I would want to be at a place that if they make me captain there's a good chance I stay captain for like the whole season. lol Who's to say what cheap is with this group? These are the guys that thought Benji Michel was a difference maker. Play your cards right and you could have Eneli for a couple of oil changes and tickets to any Megaplex Theater in town. Harsh, I know. But if you value Caliskan over Eneli there is no telling what kind of deal you might make. Maybe that is why Quinton looked a little upset. He wants to go back to CBus but Emeka gets to go. It will be $84.65 plus 8 super draft picks or something. Eneli definitely has some value and if he's not in your plans be bold, make a big move, and let it ride on Caliskan. Why not?
@goobx1 Listening to your interview with Trevor, good stuff. I can't believe I didn't put it together earlier, but his point about the 12 most important roster spots (DPs, U22s and TAM Players) all coming back (for now) is just astounding. There are 4 senior roster spots to work with, without Junqua and Brown. Who knows if they'll have room for a TAMish player. Hoping for internal improvement isn't going to cut it.
The thought of the Millers getting Megaplex tickets in exchange for a player is one that really tickles me and it's the type of trade I think our FO is capable of
@goobx1 Just listened too. I disagree with a lot of what Trevor had to say, but he did have some good takes and good points, but find him overly cynical. I’m also pretty doubtful of a lot of his prognosis on how to improve things. @Med_Phys pointed out the best part, that the main chunk of our roster is locked up, and any hope for next year requires a huge shakeup with existing players, or much-improved coaching that actually works with the guys we have. I thought his point about trying a LigaMX coach was interesting. I think he is way overblowing coaches that have had success there and translated it here. Almeyda ended up not great. Oscar Pareja is an obvious success, but he has only won a couple of Open Cups (2016 Dallas and 2022 Orlando) and a SS with Dallas in 2016. You also have several busts, one of my favorites in Chelis! Lastly, Emeka is absolute quality and can be a championship-winning-team starter. That was a badbadbad take.
Thank you to everyone that listened. Apologies for the sound, May try and re-edit but we were trying something that obviously didn't work well but should have it figured out moving forward. Also, my Eneli take was sarcastic. If you trade him you better get something for him and he is better than Caliskan but that doesn't seem to matter with this coaching staff. lol
Schedule format change incoming? https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/68...ng-calendar-season-format-change-owners-vote/
******** this: The plan is for the MLS regular season to span from mid-to-late July or August to April, with playoffs staged in May. The league would take a winter break in December and January. Games would likely pause from around the second week in December through the first or third week in February. MLS understandably is trying to avoid restarting the league on Super Bowl weekend. There would also be a summer break in June and July.
Thought it was a good listen, too, even with having to adjust volume frequently Trevor doesn’t like Pablo. That’s fine. I agree with him. I think Pablo makes young players good IF they adjust to his rigid asks. I don’t think anyone in a decision making position should have had their contract picked up. I also don’t agree that Fall was great. He wasn’t bad. He was what he was. I don’t think it would be worth bringing him back. Not thinking of Lagerway in that moment was insane to me
What will be interesting is what they do from December 2026 to the beginning of the season in July/August 2027.
I thought it and didn't say it. We didn't get into JK either. For me there is no way Lagerway comes back and not knowing his health status kind of kept it on the back burner. Also, Garth taking two steps back to be the RSL GM is a dumb move. Even if you love RSL. Hope he is on the road to recovery. The Fall stuff is interesting if you are comparing his tenure to what we have now you could argue he did a better job. Minus Chicho. Honestly, I as so tired of RSL Re-Treads I can't think straight. I love some nostalgia but this club is killing itself hanging on to team and fan favorites and not expecting more from players, coaches and the club. Maybe I am just getting grumpy but I have zero belief that JK will do anything of note with this club. I think he is all hat and no cattle. This team needs to be blown up but they wont do it. The Millers had a chance to maybe do a Global search for a new President of Soccer Operations but instead went with the ghost of MLS Cups past instead. Maybe the search for a GM is taking up too much time? One thing I might have pushed back on a bit was the Luna stuff. Don't get me wrong, Diego is a great player, but unless he leads the US to the final in the World Cup and has a brilliant tournament he is not getting sold for millions and millions of dollars. If teams from over seas liked him he would have been bought by now. RSL sold Barrajas after 6 months. Luna isn't as attractive as Gomez either. He also struggled to lift a really crappy RSL side that was crying out for someone to take over and lead. But after his stint with the USMNT he played worse. I am wrong a lot but I think Luna is MLS at best. He could find his way over seas or to Mexico but I wonder how high the ceiling really is for him. He may be close already and teams can see that. I did really enjoy chatting with Trevor. We haven't talked a lot but chatting with him in the press box and post game I like him more than I thought I would. I enjoyed helping him find some silver linings for next year. lol I did get the sound figured out and moving forward our video conversations should be much, much smoother. Apologies.
