Three separate fines: failing to leave the field in a timely manner; inciting the mass confrontation; spitting at an opponent. What an idiot. But hey, the fines go to a good cause, so he's got that going for him.

I'm guessing Vera will file it under "charitable contributions".

MacMath is up for MLS GKoY... which is odd since most aren't even sure if he is RSL GKoY...

Who was gone at least two months before the team put out a social media announcement saying he had gone out on loan.

Obviously momentum is currently not on our side, but I'm curious to hear which of the three opponents would we rather face in the first round. Houston seems to have our number lately, Colorado is housing the RMC, and we didn't notch a win against Minnesota this year.

I don’t like our chances against any of them. The one I definitely don’t want is Houston. Of the remaking two, probably playing Minnesota at elevation is our best chance for 3 points.

Don't know if I have a preference, but I think it'll be the CRapids. RSL finishes 4th is my prediction. HOU 6th and MIN 7th.

I really want to believe that RSL will come out and play well against Vancouver but with something to play for, a better playoff position and possible CCC position and a week off to prepare, means that they are absolutely ripe to screw it all up.

I have no idea what will happen.

Agreed, but I'll be part of a traveling party of 10, 3 are my kids. Connectivity is a blessing and curse sometimes.
Maybe I can root for USA at dinner tomorrow night though.

So RSL ends the season with the most points in club history, finish 3rd in the West, made some great moves, at least monetarily, and seem? to be heading in the right direction at the end of the season with a win that gets them into the CCC.

On the whole, not a bad season, but does it feel like an average, good, or great season regardless of what happens in the playoffs? Does the CCC entry make this a success regardless of the playoffs?

I think it might be a great season that ended up a good season but has the potential to get back to a great and maybe even incredible season depending on how it all turns out.

Regardless, it's been a fun ride that I hope isn't over for a couple more months.

I agree, I always want more games, but I just don't think they can do much more than get out of the first round. Even that isn't a given.

RSL haven't played good teams lately and have barely been good enough (or am I seeing it differently than most?) to get a top 4 finish. Diogo doesn't fit with what they are trying to do and Chicho is a shell of his first half form. I just don't see it, but I've been wrong before.

Almost every team in the west slumped to end the season, it was super strange. Finishing 3rd is good. It’s not great. The CCC spots have shifted to be easier to obtain, so I’m not using that as a simple good/great marker

all that said, a rub to a conference championship would tilt it back. A mls cup berth alone would be great

I'll call the season good but not great. That could change with playoff performance, though. Losing to Minnesota would push me to rate the whole thing much lower. Like 15 said, winning a few playoff series would really improve my impression of the team.

But it's weird to be at this point of the season and not really know what I think. I hope the team management uses this as a learning experience to inform future decisions about selling key players in the summer window. Losing Gomez is at least one reason why we're in this situation.

I think selling Gómez was the right decision.

The U22 initiative is to get talent in, develop, and sell on. Selling Barajas and Gómez, playing Luna and Eneli, makes RSL a destination for young talent hoping to make the leap.

It sucks for this year, but will be good for the club in the long run.

Also, we were starting to suck even before we sold Gómez. (Gómez has been used as a late sub in 3 out of 8 Rennes’ games so far. No goals or assists.)

The addition of the Leagues Cup over the past two years has been demoralizing for any team hoping to maintain momentum. Even with an unbeaten streak in the last six matches, the constant starts and stops of the season make it feel like we have no business being in the top three in the West. The reality is that we are a solid team—steady, but not overly dangerous. I’ve spent too much time focusing on Chicho, feeling frustrated that he hasn’t been able to score these past couple of months. Meanwhile, Luna and Julio have emerged as our most dangerous attackers.

David James talked a bit about the Gomez sale on The Random Fan Podcast published today @goobx1 . He said that Gomez’ motivation to play hard was his desire to play in Europe. Then it developed so that several European teams were talking to his agent and to RSL, so he knew he was going. That’s when he stopped giving the extra effort that made him so effective, including on defense. He said the organization was certain that it was the right time to move him.

This confirms my observations at least. We talked about it at length in July.
