https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/lafc-s-massive-week-nycfc-s-derby-dominance-more-from-matchday-35 Is it as simple as Doyle says? "Sometimes the answer is just personnel: “Our second-best attacker got sold and our best attacker still isn’t himself because of the injuries” is an adequate explanation for the Claret-and-Cobalt’s struggles."
Latest Champions Cup Qualifying update: Three teams for two spots - us, Cincinnati, and Seattle. EDIT: I know there are three open spots but the one for MLS Cup Champion will go to best team in the playoffs not otherwise in the CCL. Rather than 2024 regular season standings. The Sounders got 9 points this past week, surrendering 0 goals. Rusnak is now on 10 goals and 15 assists and is the main mover and shaker there.
So what you are saying is, THERE IS NOT A CHANCE. Not a chance at all for RSL to make it to the CCC. There is one but damn, that ain't happening this year, is it?
I'd say there is a very real chance, but it's no longer a control your own destiny chance. RSL, Cincy, and Seattle are tied on points at 56. Cincy and Seattle are ahead of RSL on tie-breakers due to them having more wins than RSL. No team can jump them in the standings on Decision Day. Here are the matchups for Decision Day: Cincy v Philly Cincy's last 5 - W-T-L-L-L Philly's last 5 - W-W-T-L-L Seattle v Portland Seattle's last 5 - W-T-W-W-W Portland's last 5 - W-T-L-T-T RSL v Vancouver RSL's last 5 - W-T-T-T-W Vancouver's last 5 - T-L-T-L-L I don't know who to give the edge to in the Cincy v Philly game. Philly has struggled this year, but both teams are coming off a string of losses to teams who have clinched playoff spots. Seattle is hot right now, but Portland always steps up for the Cascadia Cup games and this game determines who wins the cup. Either team could take it, but I'll hope for a draw. RSL should beat Vancouver but they've given up some bad leads lately. RSL can jump either Cincy or Seattle with a win, but the other two would need to draw or lose. It'll be a fun Decision Day!
What @SenordrummeR2 said, with also the explanation that 2 of these 3 teams will get in. Only one will miss out. If we beat Vancouver, then BOTH Seattle and Cincy must win to keep us out. Furthermore, if we do miss out and somehow Seattle or Cincy win MLS Cup, then we still get in. That one is the least likely.
Are we positive the tiebreaker for CCC is wins? That's the case for MLS playoff seeding. I've been seeing multiple reports from insiders (including the Seattle insider Oshan) that the tiebreakers are different for CCC spots and that goal differential, not wins, is the tiebreaker. From the regulations page from the Concacaf Champions Cup website.
Seattle and RSL are on +16, and Cincy is +9. But again, this only kicks in if all 3 teams get the same result. In that case, Cincy would miss out. I don't think the tie breaker is going to come into play.
Do you remember back in July when we all found it laughable to think that Chicho wouldn’t surpass Sabario’s goal-scoring record? I get they are currently level, but I think RSL needs to throw everything Chicho's way this weekend vs. Vancouver.
Glad you said something, I had completely blocked out my calendar this coming Saturday evening. I've disliked the constant stop and go of the MLS calendar this year, the summer months felt like a drag. I know if we had performed better in the Open Cup and Liga MX tourney I wouldn't be complaining, but I am.
So does the slot for non-shield winning conference top seed change to a highest point regardless of conference, or does this one default to RSL or Seattle since the shield was won by Miami?
That last win really changes some numbers. For awhile, RSL was averaging about 1ppg (going back to the Portland loss). It's back up to about 1.5ppg since the Leagues Cup break.
Still stings giving away those late draws though. It's the kind of play that makes me nervous for the playoffs.
Pablo said on the radio with Spence that Vera is getting a 3 game suspension. Doesn't sound like he'll be off the team any time soon though.
Do you listen to his whole show, or is there somewhere where his RSL-specific segments are shown? Or do you just have everything #rsl show on your feed?
I listen the next day from the KALL 700 website. Usually listen to most of Spence, but I skip golf and a few other things.
Vera suspended for 3 total matches https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/rsl-s-brayan-vera-fined-suspended-for-incident-vs-minnesota
3g 7a vs 7g 12a? Is it really that hard to argue? 18 games vs 30. Seems pretty on par to me. I don't have time to delve into production/90 but I wouldn't be surprised if Luna edged it out. While also not having players like ********ing Messi and Suarez on the team
