I’m a tad confused, what’s the connection between Marczuk traveling with his club and the Pavel Sulc deal being dead?
I interpreted the Diogo signing as the Pavel deal wasn't going to happen, but that's assuming RSL sees them both as #10/AM type players. They would both take up a DP spot, so probably can't sign both. Also assuming RSL is going to go the 2 DP/4 U-22 roster construction route. The Marczuk kid would take Gomez' U-22 slot. Surely Diogo is the break glass in emergency #9, but I do think they can have a front four that is fairly interchangeable in the flow of the game, but will have primary positions/roles.
With less than 48 hours left in the window, it's suspicious that Marczuk is traveling internationally with his club. Optics are that he may not be coming to RSL. Sulic deal has gone quiet over the past 7 days, I'm thinking that maybe talk of Marczuk could simply be a decoy, and Sulic is the still the preferred target. Obviously I have no clue, just speculating.
Pretty sure they need him if they have a chance of winning. It could just be that simple. The European stories I read made it sound like RSL was trying really hard to make it happen and the player wants the move, too.
seems like a pretty rough move. Very un-Kries-like. I’ve really liked Oviedo, but at 34, he was an expensive supersub taking an international roster slot. I wish we could have kept him through the season. The lady that sits next to my parents will be devastated. She went on a mission this May, and they were besties.
This is probably more about who is coming in than the team being unhappy with Oviedo, combined with who is on an international slot who could also be waived.
He's also out of contract after this season. Maybe this gives him a chance to catch on somewhere that's between seasons or just getting started?
At the very least, he could play in Costa Rica at the drop of a hat to finish his career, kinda like Sabo.
The Kreis interview on KALL 700 from yesterday was good. https://espn700sports.com/spence-checketts/ Brook is supposed to be a more interior player like Crooks/Luna, found that interesting. Polish media is saying Marczuk is playing his last game today for the club, very likely he moves to RSL.
I just watched the highlights of the first game of the Champion's league qualifier, and Marczuk seems to be the one player with a lot of quality on his current club. He wears number 7 and plays on the right wing.
Tom report's it's a done deal. Seems like a steal at 1.5M. Sources: Real Salt Lake complete deal to sign Polish youth int'l winger Dominik Marczuk from Jagiellonia. @KubaSeweryn updated it was done, @wlodar85 1st on deal close.I'm told fee is around $1.5m.Marczuk, 20, gives RSL another talented young attacker. pic.twitter.com/V8YVVMtFGy— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 14, 2024
This transfer window has proven to be a complete paradigm shift in FO operations. Gone are the days of flying down to Bogota and scooping up four players. In the past few weeks we've signed talent from all over the world, excluding the typically Latin countries. Seems like RSL has struggled to keep up with other scouts in the MLS in South America and decided to start looking elsewhere. In the Kreis interview with Spence this past week, he said some interesting things that go against the flow of recent RSL procedures. One was the idea that this organization needs to start the practice of selling players for a profit. As much as I hate to see Gomez leave, his proceeds are obvious and immediate with these new signings. Second thing that Jason acknowledged is that all players need to feel a level of discomfort in their positions and start fighting harder to maintain them due to depth of position, a revert back to the the days when Kreis was the manager. Lastly, Jason talked as if Diego was continuing with the squad and he is considered in the depth charts as a #9 with Crooks and Diogo. Looks like he wasn't on the market to be sold, or the offers simply weren't high enough yet for the FO to bite. I'm fascinated to see how this locker room comes together with such a variety of backgrounds.
Anyone else listen to the RSL Season Pass episode? Very interesting take to say that selling Gomez now/this value was not the best move.
It could be that Luna might want to stay here a bit longer to continue his therapy and to continue to improve his game.
May also be thinking about a move to Mexico after being screwed by US Soccer. Staying at RSL may make such a move easier.
I wonder about this too. Before it was all Spanish/English speakers (outside of maybe Katranis) easy for Pablo to communicate with. Now we have Portuguese and Polish DPs/U22. I wonder how much that language barrier will hurt how quickly they can integrate.
I still think that all but the best players (see Chicho) take about a year to acclimate and really show what they can do (Katranis is an exception, for some reason). I'm hoping that Goncalves adjusts quickly. I'm not expecting much from the other 4 additions. Brown might be able to contribute some, as he's been in MLS for a few years.
Overall this window feels like a good one. Sucks losing Gomez, but we all knew it would happen eventually. Just a little surprised it was right now. Thankfully we immediately picked up some pieces that will hopefully work out
