What if it is Gomez that's leaving and Diogo takes that spot and they can actually have both wings tuck in alternately instead of just bomb down the right and Luna tucks in?
I’d like to see Chicho pushed back to CF with Luna behind him, and two kickass wing players like Gómez.
If this is true then both Luna and Gomez are are their way to being sold. We’re stockpiling wingers in this transfer window, seems like we need to diversify a bit with other positions.
Andres Gomez is off to Ligue 1 for a big pile of money - Doyle says 10th highest fee in MLS history, and 3x what we at RSL have ever gotten before. Yep. I'm sure that will make the bean counters happy. As a paying fan, I'd like to see RSL lift a trophy. Or I'd settle for lowering the price of my season tickets. What're the chances of either happening?
They're not lowering season tickets this year and given how many people are attending, they probably won't lower them next year, either. RSL is not in good form and just lost their second best player. I'm not sure they'll be able to adjust in time to win a trophy this year. However, we should be glad to see players being sold on, that's how clubs around the world stay in business. Now, the challenge is to reinvest and find the next guys.
Andrés! Thanks for the memories. Wish you well. Sad to see him go, but this type of thing is exactly how RSL can best position itself for success in this league as one of the smallest markets.
The guys they're bringing in sure seem ready to lock and load. The FO has been busy and done a great job this summer.
Locky Brock and Javain Brown don’t seem like improvements (although I’d be happy to be wrong). They do seem like guys that can be role players immediately though.
Those are Fidel replacements Goncalves is Gomez replacement and arguably improvement on body of work color me impressed by this last few windows. This is so much better than sitting pat and thinking things will change
I didn't suggest they were improvements. And not those two anyway, who will surely be depth. But Diogo Goncalves and Dominic Marczuk seem like really good, eminently prepared players.
Just clarifying. I am excited for these two, and I’ll bet that Diogo is who the team was implying would be our dynamic playmaker, keeping Luna on the wing. I wish that he could have been announced and already with the team like Chicho was last year, but we have our mini-preseason now to hone things.
Spence said that Diogo is going to be paid around $5m/year, but second only to Chicho. Chicho makes ~$2m. So he either misspoke or has bad info. I did see that Diogo supposedly made ~$1.4m/yr with Copenhagen. He may want a raise to come here though?
Apparently the release clause for Marczuk is only 1.5m Euros. That's cheap if he can be anywhere close to Gomez.
I doubt he is going to be as good as Gómez, but anywhere close would be amazing. It will be very interesting to see how this team adjusts now that we don’t have someone so able to get passed defenders on the dribble on the wing.
One thing I’m hoping for out of Diogo is that Portuguese physical play and take no **** off anybody attitude. There are a few MLS sides against which that attitude is needed.
Two days left in this secondary transfer window and it still seems likely (due to the constant chatter) that we'll have yet another addition. Obviously everyone's focused on the potential of signing Marczuk, but he traveled with his club today to a Champion's league qualifier in Norway. This leads me to wonder if the Pavel Sulc deal is dead and they're planning on Diogo as the long term #9, or could it still be viable and Diogo could be asked to play as a backup 9 and starter ring winger.
