This one confuses me a bit. Not much of an investment, I presume, but with the profile I would sure hope we have a young player or two in the system who could use the minutes.
This is what I was thinking. He doesn’t seem bad! But is he really that much better than Gozo? Why not, ya know, also develop homegrown attackers?
Is that a bird? A plane? No! It’s 15s proverbial bat signal! this model of buying late teen/ early 20s players instead of utilizing a player part from the academy is laughable. To be fair, Beavers and Hidalgo are regular first team players who came through the academy, but producing a player of a Gomez or Luna level seems weirdly impossible. is Gozo the player to break that? When does he finally become a consistent first team player?
I think the one who broke it was Sebastian Saucedo (more than 80 appearances). But he left five years ago. Not a Gomez or Luna level, but a consistent first team attacking player/
I suppose This club really hasn’t done the young player sold for profit thing until this year in any sort of metric that is a success. See Fidel.
The All Star game is what it is but that was not a great performance by any stretch of the imagination. Also, the atmosphere was pretty flat. But that should be expected as the sport grows and money plays an ever increasing role and fans that support the team week in and week out aren't the ones that get tickets to games like the All Star game. It's great progress but disconcerting at the same time. It's not there yet, by any stretch of the imagination, but soccer will end up like the NBA at some point. Maybe not in my lifetime but eventually. The lower bowl will be full of corporate seats and "real" fans will sit in the nose bleed seats or just watch on tv. I'm a bit cynical but you can see it with RSL. The ticket price changes, which are still affordable comparatively, but will price out more and more fans eventually. Yes the south end is still cheap but I don't fan that way. I'm old. The please don't stand up in this standing section email. The concession prices being based off Jazz prices which is fine, I guess. I love RSL but as much as I don't miss watching a bad team play at an awful stadium like Rice Eccles, I do miss those romantic early days of the team being so close to the fans. It's really what made me a fan. Can't stop progress but it is a bit sad watching MLS gentrify it's way into the future of being a bigger sport in the US and the world. Just a thought. Anyway, I don't have any issue with having exhibitions like the All Star game. It's great fun and plays to the American sports fan and for the most part beneficial for the league. I think that making it an east v west might be more fun at this point or maybe cycling between three options like East v West one year, International team next, and LMX the next, and then start over might be fun. Congratulations to Diego Luna and Justen Glad. Thought they acquitted themselves nicely. Not a single mention of Chicho Arango that I heard during the game even when talking about MVP candidates. It must be something pretty untoward that they just want to see go away and be forgotten that has Chicho out for one for game.
Its so weird how silent the team and league have been on this. 4 games is a pretty hefty punishment and with how little was said in the initial suspension statement it makes your mind wander to the worst.
The written policy basically says the league won’t comment other than to announce it. The team said they agree with the punishment. I think that’s all we’re going to hear.
If I understand, it's neither. It's just rumors that America and Chivas are interested in Luna. Probably trying to capitalize on his Olympics snub.
Fidel Barrajas $4 mil and Luna $5? Not a chance RSL would roll out of bed for that offer. If they are rumored to be asking $15 mil to even start a conversation for Gomez Luna has to be $10+. I also can't see Luna making a move that might be not much more than a lateral move. If the goal is Europe there has to be interested sides that would be a better move for him. Move to a Championship side and have an impact. I know a League 1 side that could use a playmaker like Luna but they definitely don't have $10 million to put out for him. lol. Or $5 for that matter.
We apparently picked up a Jamaican RB off of waivers from Vancouver: Sources: Real Salt Lake has signed Jamaica int’l defender Javain Brown off waivers.Brown, 25, has 25 caps with Jamaica. Made 107 apps with Vancouver Whitecaps before surprisingly being waived, though I’m told split was amicable between player/club. pic.twitter.com/Pn3yMwsosK— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 31, 2024 Three signings this window now, none a potential starter really.
I remember liking him at the draft. Really odd for him to be waived, he was a starter not long ago. Also questionable to use the international slot. Fits a needs but not a clear starter or someone that likely pushes for minutes right away. Still want to see a bold move that adds a difference maker. RSL show guys brought up James Rodriguez again.
Anyone else hear about T. Gomez being gone and a Monarchs GK (Delgado?) taking his spot? Would this be related to the Chicho issue?
RSL show episode from last week. They said it was a done deal and would be reflected in the Leagues Cup roster.
