Exactly. Cade Cowell went to Chivas in January on a similar deal and he was much more hyped. This sounds like a great piece of business by RSL. It would have been nice to see him play more, really explode on the scene more like Gomez, before he left.
Agreed on wishing we could've had him longer, but that's a good bit of business as everyone else said. Also good knowing they plan on using that money in the summer window.
Rumor shared in the MLS:N&A forum about Gavin Beavers: Not sure about "spectacular" but he's on a great trajectory.
Charleston is getting some crazy money out of the deal. I wonder what the largest transfer fee in USL has been.
There is money to be made purely in finding talented Mexican Americans and waiting for Chivas to come knocking. Their limitation on player selection leads to a premium in fee. Gomez should go for much bigger, but he won’t as the pool he’s competing in is deeper
Glad and Arango made it onto the All Star team. Also worthy of note, Aaron Herrera did too. Great for him!
Looks to be official: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/real-salt-lake-transfer-fidel-barajas-to-chivas-guadalajara
Good for him. Sad that it's Chivas. Hopefully that means more movement for RSL when the window opens. Or before for that matter.
How exactly do the roster rules work around these transfer fees? Assuming the rumors of Charleston's 20% sell-on fee and the $4m, how much of that $3.2m could be spent on player salaries/transfers etc.?
I believe the league keeps a percentage as well. It's been a while since I read the rules, but I want to say the transfer fees can be used on player acquisition but not salaries.
I can't keep track because it changes every year. I'm pretty sure at least $1m can be converted to GAM at this point, especially with such a low acquisition cost to subtract out. Upon a quick search, teams get 95% after the recoup their costs. They can convert up to $1,215,506 to GAM. I don't know if that has to be used this year or can be pushed forward partially or entirely.
I missed the story from yesterday, but Jude Wellings will be going on loan to FC Pinzgau, like Brody and Ruiz before him!
Diego apparently not going to the Olympics: Sources: Real Salt Lake attacker Diego Luna has NOT made the United States Olympic roster.Luna, 20, has 4g/9a in 1351 mins this year. After being told he wasn't selected to final roster USYNT asked him to be part of alternates to train/potential injury call ups. Luna declined. pic.twitter.com/RprpGNlmya— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) July 6, 2024
Yes he has!!!! He’s always performed great for country. Club has been mixed. If he played for club like he is for Colombia this Copa, I guarantee that he would be playing for Champions League. Dude can do it, if he chooses to.
These next 3 games are all away games against very strong opponents. I’m hoping we can take 5-6 points from them.
The tone from soccer America’s about Luna turning down the alternate spot is a ********ing joke. Luna should have been on the 18, hell the starting XI. they’re extrapolating that this will impact his future call ups. Cool. Can’t wait for him to tear it up for Venezuela. USSF are ********ing morons
Should be a really interesting run of matches for RSL. In the first half Atlanta really showed how to attack the hodge podge RSL back line and a better team gets two or three goals in a similar half. I'm sure that RSL will probably out perform my expectations but I think this team might be heading for a little rough patch. The kind every team goes through once or twice a season. They will be going up against 3 teams that they have history against. Portland for obvious reasons, LAFC looking to prove they are the real team at the top of the west and a Colorado side that probably want's nothing more than to win a stupid little cup so yea, a lovely 3 game gauntlet for RSL to play through.
