Prediction on what we won't see in this thread: manager quits or is fired. Team is sold. Prediction on what we will see in this thread: more player acquisitions than normal.
Careful what you wish for…. but really I hope RSL not Houston makes a swipe at Hector Herrera to pull him away from Athletico Or go really crazy and backup a truck full of cash to Diego Lainez - who could be a u22 DP I believe
It's really hard to picture certain players here when you don't even know how the team plays or even lines up. It's easy to see a guy like Cuellar fitting in just about any formation though. Is HH better right now? What about in 2 years?
Hector Herrera as a marketing piece would be unmatched He’s also a hell of a mid - he plays for one of the top teams in europe
Doesn't look like the site has our roster compliance. Which... not surprising. But to venture a guess, I think this is the breakdown: (Senior Spots are 1-20, Supplementals 21-24, 25-28, and 29-30) Besler Brody (HG) Caldwell (HG) Chang Cordova Glad (HG) Herrera (HG) Holt (HG) Kappelhof Kreilach Loeffelsend Luiz MacMath Menedez Meram Ochoa (HG) Rubin Ruiz Silva Wood Halsey (GA) Schmitt (HG) Benitez (HG) Davis (HG) Kei (HG) Orozco (HG) Beavers (HG) Dewsnup (HG) Farnsworth (HG) Wellings (HG) Italicized players were listed last year as non-senior roster spots. However, I don't see how they aren't now with how many kids we have. Unless I'm mistaken, we don't have an open roster spot currently. Thats... weird. Especially weird when we signed Loeffelsend to a first team contract hours after signing him to a Monarchs contract. Last season Fall had the excuse that he was pulling this all of with a hand tied behind his back. That hand has been freed and he's doing the exact same thing in terms of filling the roster before opening day. WTF? The last four players on this list don't have a roster designation on the site. That's really weird to me. Everyone else does, theirs is just a blank space. Why is this thing so hard to maintain?
Trey said he believes that the info is ultimately controlled by the league. Which is frustrating because last year other teams' were up to date and RSL wasn't. I'm waiting to hear about the MLS NEXT PRO rules in regards to HGs and other MLS players on loan and such. That's the only thing that makes sense at this point.
If you look at both, it's almost like the club roster page takes the info from the league page. Maybe it makes sense if you remind yourself all players sign with the league?
Good point, however, found instances last year that would suggest they are operated independently: i.e. the league site didn't align with the club site.
I don't like it, seems like another excuse. Maybe an instance of some clubs being more equal than others?
I read the roster lists often while watching other MLS games. No other is as consistently wrong as ours. That suggests it's internal. They are also formatted differently across the board, and if the league managed them, you'd expect uniformity.
initially under new ownership? no But if this ownership wants to send a very clear signal that they aren't like DLH in terms of investing in the team in meaningful ways, a move similar to this needs to happen in the next 12 months. Be that in the summer lead up to the World Cup or once the World Cup is over. Go get a name. One from Mexico would be solid. Heck, you know what would be an absolutely amazing move? RSL signing Carlos Vela who is out of contract in the middle of the season.
Yes it would! However it would take an obscene amount of cash to do so. He supposedly wants to go back to Europe with a few targets in mind. His backup plan is supposedly Miami. It would take a crazy overpay for him to come to RSL. As much money as the new owners have, they don't strike me as ones to make that kind of move.
It makes me wonder what additional amount of money it takes for a player to eschew a large market (i.e. greater merch potential/advertising sponsorships) team and come to a place like Utah. There is more than just ownership that is challenging. There is location and reputation that plays a part as well. Can that be overcome by salesmanship or just straight up cash?
People play in industrial cities, in steamy climates, in scorching heat, in cold and wet and the like. They'll play here too. Not all of them, but enough of them. Kansas City is a good example.
The commodity here is people. Irrational, unpredictable, wildly different, people. Quantifying it assumes they act in even remotely the same manner. They don’t add the rather unique and curious mechanisms of MLS and this feels like an impossible task. At least not one that results in a high level of confidence
The most recent Soapbox episode has some good discussion about the HOU game, pre-season, expectations, etc. Trevor in particular had a good take on the expectations/worry/strategy. Basically there's some big picture concerns that make it hard to think that better players will fix. Anyone else listen yet?
You can skip the first 25 - 30 minutes of the episode. Whole lot of rambling about video games, The Westerner club, and other stuff before they actually get to RSL information.
