this story seems to be gaining momentum by the day. heard it on the radio sports report this morning as well as it being in the sunday papers. seems that roy has signaled his longing to return to the fold and the poor russia game may have been the catalyst for the fai to act (with or without mmc). something definitely seems to be happening behind closed doors.

i think mick will resign if it happens

I think you're right - there's no way mc carthy would stand by and allow keane back into the squad. would it be a bad thing if he resigned though? i'd be the first to say that the world cup exceeded most expectations however as mentioned elsewhere on this board mick's tactical ineptitude has been shown up on numerous occasions.

By taking keane back now and hiring a new manager we could well be saving ourselves a lot of heartache further down this qualifying campaign.

What about the other players - McAteer for example?

point taken - undoubtedly keane's return would result in some disruption in the camp. any such move would need to be 'managed' very well - this whole thing could well be pie in the sky but you have to remember that what's important here is that we as a nation qualify and compete at the highest level. if it means having the noses of a few players bent out of shape for the greater good i'd back it. we're talking about professional sportsmen here - whatever differences exist or have existed (and i include keane in this) should be left in the dressing room once the whistle blows.

as i said, it's all probably pie in the sky as i think once mick's book comes out this whole thing is going to get worse........but it's an interesting topic!

Right now, this is a moot point. Keane is out anyway until after the October 16 game at home against Switzerland. If the Swiss get a draw in Dublin, then I'm sure many more people will be clammering for Roy to come back and also calling for Mick's head.
