Sounds like jealousy to me. He feels threatened by the young guys. Are there rumours about Steven Gerrard taking over the captaincy? I hadn't heard that one.

Right now Gerrard is the better player, as is natural with their ages. The question is, though; will Gerrard ever be as good as the Roy Keane of 1998-2002? If he does reach that level a few years down the line Liverpool could be a serious force (England as well).

I agree that Gerrard is better right now. And I think he has the potential to be great, though I don't know about being as great as the Keane a few years ago. I hate to think of the possibilities, considering I'm an Everton fan. :D

Ehhh... if Roy didn't feel that way, he wouldn't still be the great player and competitor that he is. I don't think he's slighting Gerrard at all, just saying that he can still compete. If he thought he couldn't, he would retire.

How is either better than the other? They're two very different types of players.

Skip thanks for stating the obvious. Keane is a holding defending midfielder with the mind of a pit bull. I've my own opinions about him but he does not play the same game as Stevie. For one, his passing ability is adequate and Gerrard's is excellent to great. It's a sure sign of decline when you have to announce you are still as good as other players.

"You look at Gerrard last season and he didn't kick a ball for the first three-and-a-half months."

    What does that mean?

Roy Keane is a legend in his own mind, he believes and he has to cling to something or he'd be were he really belongs..Millwall. Or as Motterman hinted at "he should retire":)

Stevie G is better now than Keane 'was' at his nasty best, and Steve has his best years to come.

Eh, whatever. Looks like he's hitting out at his critics more than hitting out at Stevie. As much as I don't like Keane, I'm sure he's smart enough to know how good Gerrard is, and professional enough to not talk ******** for no real reason.

    Twaddle at its finest.

Roy was and is the best Midfielder the Premiership has seen in its history.

He puts many in the shade and to thing Mick McCarthy had the stupidity to send him home before the last World Cup.

Anyway Stevie G has alot going for him but has a long way to go in matching Roy...
