We've signed Jonson Clarke-Harris again which I must say is a top signing (hopefully). Viktor Johansson has signed for Stoke. https://www.themillers.co.uk/news/2024/may/read--an-open-letter-from-viktor-johansson-18-05-24/
That's a nice touch. But I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. You can be pretty shit at Spurs (not that Johansson was that), but I'll always love any player who clearly loves Spurs.
It looks like you've gotten in George Byers, Myshoe. That's a cracking signing, if you want my 2 cents worth. I very much rated him at Wednesday, and if there were question marks about him in the Championship, there certainly weren't in the 3rd tier. Rotherham's summer is getting off to a decent start, I'd say. edit: Hold the phone! I may have been premature, here. Not seeing anything saying it's official yet.
Reece James has been confirmed pending his contract at Wednesday running out in the summer. We also signed Rafferty from Portsmouth's promotion winning side who they released. Add that to Clarke-Harris who has a decent goal scoring record at League One level and it's looking very positive so far.
Johansson had a £1m release clause in his contract so we have a bit extra to spend. It's good to see the chairman backing the manager after getting so badly burned last season though. Hopefully Nombe (our £1m signing under Taylor) will come good next season...
When Hamer signed at Wednesday, with Johansson off, and with so many Owls making their way down river to the New York Stadium, I started to post on here (half in jest) that Cam Dawson might be a good fit. It's actually happening, though, it seems. Good for him. Hopefully good for RUFC, as well.
Yeah we've signed a few from Wednesday now, had to wait for their contracts to run down though. I was going to say hopefully Smith will do the same but he's probably half the player he was when he left us with how much time he's spent on the bench.

Yeah it is I suppose. A lot of Sheffield based Wednesday fans don't really understand why matches against them are seen as such a big deal to us but given how many Wednesday fans there are in Rotherham, it's just like any other local derby throughout the country to both sets of fans in Rotherham. You don't really meet a Sheff United fan unless you're working there and vice versa so there just isn't the same sort of rivalry, getting together is more of a rare novelty so when we do meet we're both just united in our rivalry towards Wednesday.
Rotherham United looking to sign Sheffield Wednesday forward Mallik Wilks (rotherhamadvertiser.co.uk) ... Honesty, could Steve Evans be a bigger douche? It's like he works at it. I wouldn't think Wednesday are asking too much, as Wilks won't be getting minutes at Hillsborough. And the Rathbone sale suggests there are funds (not that I know anything of Rotherham's finances). Rathbone passing up a new contract to go to Wrexham, though ... that's gotta hurt a bit.
All hearsay (from a poster on OwlsOnline), but: Fat lad facing EFL charge after the Exeter game. Told chief steward to fuck off who tried to have a word about his language after the crowd behind the dugout complained. Refused to shake hands with Gary Caldwell after the game then had to be pulled away from the ref's door by his own coaching team as he was just hammering on the door shouting obscenities. Gotta love 'im.
Yeah he's a real sore loser but I guess that's part of what has made him so successful, a club like ours is never going to be able to afford perfect diamonds. Unfortunately for him it's probably going to take a few more transfer windows to sort out the mess we're in, we've still got Jordan Hugill (AKA Jordan HugeBill) whose idea of being a striker is falling down like a sack of potatoes whenever a defender gets within 5 yards of him. Playoffs is probably the best we can hope for this season.
Our fans are now turning on Steve Evans and his hoofball tactics, also he got mardy towards the Wycombe manager after losing again. So to sum up our situation, Matt Taylor was appointed on a 4 year contract to improve the club on and off the pitch, in his second season the club signed a bunch of unwanted sick notes with Championship experience but it turns out sick notes get injured a lot (shocking revelation I know!). Taylor had us playing some quite decent football but we just weren't good enough in terms of fit players, owner panicked and sacked him, brought in Richardson who had an almost impossible task, owner sacked him when he inevitably failed and brought back Evans who has hit the ground in League One like a dropped egg. I think when we appointed Taylor on such a long contract we had the right idea but I suspect probably the TV money you get for being in the Championship now was too big for owner to just relinquish without rolling the dice on a new manager and now we seem to be without any real long term plan and Evans is still lumbered with too many highly paid rejects.
We allowed Ogbene to go to Luton on a free transfer at the start of last season and he's just been sold to Ipswich for £8million.
Once bigger clubs start showing an interest in one of our players it's almost impossible for us to get them to sign a new contract, in his last season with us he kept us in the Championship so that was probably worth a few million to us and we'd have probably only got £1-2m selling him with a year left on his contract. A sell on clause would have been nice though...
Malik Wilks with the late winner v 'udders! Won the penalty, too, I believe. That's a cracking result, that.
Yeah hopefully the strikers will have more confidence and we can kick on now, we've been creating chances at least compared to last season but we just can't seem to score.
