Not a lot has happened so far in off season, Grant Hall has signed from Middlesbrough after being on loan last season, Chiedozie Ogbene has gone to Premiership Luton Town on a free transfer, our second choice goalkeeper has left us for pastures new. We could do with one or two decent signings.
Serious question: which do you prefer, Myshoe, relegation battles in the Championship, or cruising in League1? I remember a stretch some years back where West Brom was doing the same between the Championship and the Prem. I always thought it'd be great fun being a Baggies fan, as they tried to play positive footy, and come April, they were always playing for something. Anyway, hopefully Rotherham will be a bit more secure this season come April ... not that I'd bet on it, mind. Still, the struggle can be more interesting than midtable mediocrity coming down the stretch, even if rather harder on the nerves.
You can't beat a good promotion season whatever the division but given the choice I'd always choose being in the higher division playing more prestigious teams even if it's a depressing struggle, there's always that little bit of hope we might have a good season and sit comfortably mid-table even if it's not very realistic at this level. We've signed a goalkeeper from Cardiff today, so that's that area sorted.
Yeah, I think that's how I'd see it if my club had a stretch of going between divisions the way Rotherham has been doing. I'm sure I'd prefer being in the higher division, yet perhaps enjoy more being in the lower, if that makes sense. I just remember, back in the late 90s/early 2000s, when Spurs were never playing for anything (save a cup) come the Spring, thinking how much more excitement some of the pro/rel fans were getting. ... I suspect I might not be saying that whilst stuck in a relegation battle, though, to be fair.
Conor Washington now gone to Derby. If the season started tomorrow we'd be screwed, we need some decent signings, probably loan.
Cafu signed from Forest on 1 year deal, we're looking pretty solid defensively just need some attacking players now.
Nah he's Portuguese, defensive midfielder by the sounds of it. We played a friendly against Elche out in Spain, they were relegated from La Liga last season, lost 1-0. I think that sums up my thinking atm, we have a decent enough defence but it's a mystery where the goals are going to come from.
We beat a weakened Sheffield United team 1-0 in a friendly last night, the goal coming from a trialist.
Holy crap Cafu's free kick at 3:08 is class, our free kicks from that sort of range usually go into row Z.
We won 3-0 against Lincoln City in our final friendly, Cafu scored a blinding free kick by the sound of it so I don't there'll be any arguing over who is taking our direct free kicks this season. We've also signed a couple of loan players, Dexter Lembikisa from Wolves and Fred Onyedinma from Luton. So we now have a Cafu and a Fred.
We've signed Andre Green on a 2yr deal, ex-Wednesday apparently, he's the one who scored that clever flick against the Blades.
2-0 down just before half time. QPR are getting an even bigger wallopping at least.... edit: 3-0 with probably the last kick of the half. Awful start to the season.
3-1 currently and we've lost 2, possibly 3 central defenders to injury depending on whether Morrison's substitution was down to injury or his first half performnce.
Two games into the season and we're already ravaged by injuries, 1-1 against a League Two side in the cup, I don't think this season is going to go very well.
Those in charge of officiating have admitted Cafu's sending off was a bad decision, thankfully it didn't really impact the result.
Yeah I guess but it still feels like a loss, we can't afford to be throwing away points in this league. Our player was apparently sent off after two yellows for: Touching fans during his goal celebration. Suggesting the referee book someone for a foul. I guess we should have got George Orwell in during pre-season to explain the latest totalitarian rules to our players, they might as well just bin humans off and replace players with robots if they can't display any emotion and engage with paying fans.
Ref's have apologised again for the first yellow card, so that's two matches and two yellow cards that have lead to a sending off (for two yellows) that we have received apology for but can't appeal, with an already thread bare squad. Paul Davis @paulm_davis Boss Matt Taylor says #rufc have this week been in contact with refs group PGMOL who have said Cafu shouldn't have been given a second yellow card at Stoke on opening day. Paul Davis @paulm_davis #rufc boss Matt Taylor had ref Robert Madley and the PGMOL's Howard Webb and Kevin Friend in his Roundwood office this week. Apology given for the first Fred Onyedinma booking. Paul Davis @paulm_davis #rufc boss Matt Taylor says rules have to change so dismissals for two yellow cards can be appealed. At the moment, only straight reds fall into that category. Says the PGMOL party agreed with him. Farcical.
