Roster for 4/26 Nigeria match [R] Maybe this can be the official pre-game thread as well? http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=33481 So I wonder if the Beat/Freedom players will play in both matches?
Can ATL & DC suit up their NTers, even as subs in the 2nd half? I suppose you can squeeze out an extra 10-20 minutes from the likes of Mia, Parlow, etc. as late subs for the nightcap. I wish the USSF schedule another international friendly the Wednesday before/after. I think Ape can use her time and the players' time more productively with back-to-back friendlies. Fear. what did ID do to to your roadtrip?
1) I am assuming that Stone and Gabarra have discussed the situation with Heinrichs and maybe Heinrichs will use the Beat/Freedom players only in the first half and rest them in the second so that they can at least play in the second game of the day. I know when this DH was first announced a while back, Katy Button (the Freedom's GM), was hoping that the Freedom players could play in both games. Beene pulled double duty last year. 2) My organization works closely with the Idaho Legislature. Right now the legislature is a mess with the whole budget/tax increase dilemna. We just got word this morning that it can be another two weeks before the session ends. I really can't take any time off (even one freaking day) until the session is over. I was kinda hoping they would wrap things before the 4/19 Spartan doubleheader (my roadtrip) but it's looking like that ain't gonna happen . Uhhhh I may have to come down with a "stomach flu" or something like that on 4/18 .
The Breakers are screwed if Heinrichs takes all four campers. And this is their home opener. San Diego has four in camp, too, but Fawcett is unlikely given her recent surgery. SJ and Washington have three each called in, Hotlanta, Carolina, and hapless New York, two each. Philadelphia (Boston's opponent on the 26th) has only one called in.
Club vs. Country Dilemma This is really poor scheduling when you consider how many clubs have one or even two weeks with no games during the month of April. It is very unfortunate that Boston has to play the first three weeks on the road and then could end up playing their home opener without four of their starters. The best solution IMO would have been to have scheduled this match coupled with another friendly on the Wednesday before or after like cachundo has suggested, but also have it during a week when all of the WUSA clubs aren't playing. I wonder if any consideration was at least given to scheduling Boston's home open on the 27th along with the New York at Carolina match? Since San Jose plays in San Diego at 8 PM ET on the 27th, I would expect that at least some of the CyberRay and Spirit players called up for this friendly match would play no more than 45 minutes against Nigeria and thus still be available to play some for their club teams the next day.

I hope nobody gets redcarded for the US. There was almost a fight in the WWC (Hey lets beat up Mia anyone?). And I also hope no one gets decapitated by one the 7 feet tall Nigerians. They really do play dirty and they make me nervous. But as for the US Roster, there are only 5 forwards. How many do you think April will take with her to China? If she only takes 4, I'm pulling for Abby, but I think she'll opt for Heather instead. Oh well, we'll see. And if the Beat/Freedom players can't play in both matches, the Freedom are screwed. No Siri, no Mia, no Abby and a whole lot of Maribel Dominguez. Not good, not good at all.
This game might not happen after all. The Nigerians have not arrived in North America to play their earlier games against the Canadians - guess that we'll find out fairly soon...
the nigerians should be arriving to the US on the 23rd... i'm sorta still po-ed at their "failed" attempt to getting to the US on time for the games vs. canada. i mean...the CSA went "out of their way" to accomodate these games by playing them in SOUTH CAROLINA, and the fact that nigeria didn't even show up ... major grrr... but, of course...they will show up for the game vs. the USWNT!!! go figure! lol elaine
I made a post in the international forum on this, but Nigeria is in the middle of some very messy national elections and violence is threatening to break out. The government there is in trouble, so we shouldn't be surprised if Team Nigeria doesn't make it over here.
I can't believe the federation scheduled a friendly against Nigeria so close to the world cup. I don't want anyone injured damnit!
Will the weather suck? Weather.com says, as of 7 p.m. Tuesday, that it will be rainy and 61 on Saturday. Hope they're wrong.
From the Wednesday Washington Post: U.S. Women's Team Testing Newer Models By Brian Straus Special to The Washington Post
They will not cancel it. Most probably they will move it to Australia. A decission is set to be made next week. As far as scheduling "close" to the WWC. This is not very close. Most injuries incured at this time will be healed in time for the player to get back into form and even to play several WUSA games. Also since the US has been shown to have problems with teams that defend and counter and play physical this is a good choice unless we want to play Canada, again and again and again.
Check this thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45617 Nigeria is out, Canada is in.
Add to the list of players not playing for their WUSA teams this weekend: Atlanta - Hooper, Nonen Boston - LeBlanc Carolina - Boyd San Diego - Latham? (Sunday game)
I suppose there's the possibility of either of these players going 45 minutes in the USA/CAN match and being available to play in the WUSA match that follows. Carolina, however, is going to be in a world of hurt as Boyd makes 6 players (5 starters) missing from their 16.
In another thread I stated that Canadians do not have to respond to the call up. Of course the probably will but they do not have to. From FIFA: Art. 38 1. As a general rule, any player registered with a club is obliged to respond affirmatively when called upon by the national association of which he is a national to play for one of its representative teams. 2. A national association wishing to summon one of its players who is playing abroad must notify him in writing at least 15 days before the date of the match for which the player is required. The player's club shall also be informed in writing at the same time. The club shall confirm the release of the player within the ensuing six days. Clearly Canada could not comply with this requirement. AS far as Latham she would be, under the same regulation, required to return to her club within 24 hours so she should be available Sunday no matter what.
