I don't follow. If he's a DP, he hits the salary budget at ~$650k. If you use $1m in TAM, he still hits the budget at ~$650k, but now you don't have the TAM for someone else. He gets paid the same regardless.

Think he means owners pockets (DP) vs mls funny money (tam) in terms of “savings”

Well at one point, owners had to "purchase" discretionary TAM. That's supposed to be going away (more GAM instead of TAM), but it may still be the case this year.

Additionally I’m not sure he’s going to help in midfield this season.

would be curious to ask Elliott why he needs a young MLS homegrown midfielder when he has Wellings and Benetez already...

It looks much better in person. The color is hard to appreciate in the photos. I do agree that the pattern could stand out more but I wonder if it will when it gets wet or with some perspiration or something.

A couple rows highlighted with some black outline would have been dope.

Some season preview stuff from the team.

Few notes: Chang is listed as an attacking midfielder, but Meram is a forward. Wellings made the list, but Benitez did not. Kei made the list and the guys on loan did not.

My guess at the roster (I'm assuming several HGs will be listed as unavailable on 2/24, if that roster compliance info is released).

    Brody
    Caldwell
    Chang
    Farnsworth
    Glad
    A. Gomez
    T. Gomez
    Hidaldo
    Holt
    Jacquesson
    Julio
    Kreilach
    Luna
    Loffelsend
    MacMath
    Meram
    Musovski
    Ojeda
    Oviedo
    Paul
    Pierre
    Rubin
    Ruiz
    Savarino
    Silva
    Vera

That's 26, with 5 HGs unavailable and 2 on loan. The 3 other draft picks won't (my opinion) be signed by RSL (one has already signed outside the organization).

Just a reminder, that's potentially 4x more money than RSL got for Ochoa. I guess you win some and lose some. Hopefully it was a valuable learning experience. Still don't understand the value coming back on the Herrera trade.

So why did Fall sign Wellings and Benetiz to senior contracts?

Before I found out it was over 3 seasons, yeah I think $300k for a player you had no intention of signing is a lot. The 1st round pick could be nice, especially if it ends up top 10.
Kreilach will be playing some weird hybrid of 10 and secondary forward. If they didn't have so many bodies at the position, I think they'd be looking at a Sava level 9. They should have the money for it, but may have to wait to see what kind of roster designation Ojeda would take if they purchase him.

So they don't repeat the mistake of Soto, Booth and Ledezma? This whole thing of "Unavailable" and not counting towards the roster limit is new, so if you can pay and get promising kids, wouldn't you? They apparently don't have to play MLS minutes.

Yeah I've gathered these aren't really first-team contracts, and are some kind of new mechanism we just made up to sign them to the first-team but in a way that they're not eligible for minutes.

We're above the number of HG slots that are allowed, so if we wanted Wellings or Benitez to play minutes for the team we'd have to find a roster spot for them. It makes it basically impossible for amateur content-creators since nobody actually knows who is on the roster, but I guess it works for the club.

Every other North American sports league gets fans to make tons of free content for them by enabling endless talk about salary caps and rosters and imagined trades and so forth. I've always hated how MLS makes that impossible for no reason.

By not giving them any chances beyond monarch minutes and tanking their careers?
