I don't follow. If he's a DP, he hits the salary budget at ~$650k. If you use $1m in TAM, he still hits the budget at ~$650k, but now you don't have the TAM for someone else. He gets paid the same regardless.
Well at one point, owners had to "purchase" discretionary TAM. That's supposed to be going away (more GAM instead of TAM), but it may still be the case this year.
Midfielder from SK Beveren https://www.wasatch.soccer/post/2023-02-14/52/moses-nyeman-loan-signing-expected
So we have room in a crowded midfield for a 19 y/o but no room for a 19 y/o defender when our 3rd CB hasn't shown to be starting level quality?
would be curious to ask Elliott why he needs a young MLS homegrown midfielder when he has Wellings and Benetez already...
I'm hoping the pattern shows better in person, just like the last secondary jersey. I'm liking that there's blue and gold shorts. Definitely looks more gold in some of the photos on the team website. https://www.rsl.com/news/through-the-lens-2023-beehive-state-kit https://www.rsl.com/news/through-the-lens-beehive-state-kit-details
It looks much better in person. The color is hard to appreciate in the photos. I do agree that the pattern could stand out more but I wonder if it will when it gets wet or with some perspiration or something. A couple rows highlighted with some black outline would have been dope.
RSL releases Tate Schmitt (and by releases I mean trades him to Houston for a 3rd round Superdraft pick).
Some season preview stuff from the team. https://www.rsl.com/news/real-salt-lake-2023-season-preview https://www.rsl.com/news/through-the-lens-2023-rsl-midfield-positional-preview https://www.rsl.com/news/through-the-lens-2023-rsl-midfield-positional-preview https://realsaltlake.exposure.co/2023-rsl-defender-positional-preview Few notes: Chang is listed as an attacking midfielder, but Meram is a forward. Wellings made the list, but Benitez did not. Kei made the list and the guys on loan did not. My guess at the roster (I'm assuming several HGs will be listed as unavailable on 2/24, if that roster compliance info is released). Brody Caldwell Chang Farnsworth Glad A. Gomez T. Gomez Hidaldo Holt Jacquesson Julio Kreilach Luna Loffelsend MacMath Meram Musovski Ojeda Oviedo Paul Pierre Rubin Ruiz Savarino Silva Vera That's 26, with 5 HGs unavailable and 2 on loan. The 3 other draft picks won't (my opinion) be signed by RSL (one has already signed outside the organization).
https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/vancouver-whitecaps-sign-sergio-cordova-from-bundesliga-s-augsburg Holy ****! That's a haul. See ya Sergio. Thanks for the memories and good luck in Vancouver.
Just a reminder, that's potentially 4x more money than RSL got for Ochoa. I guess you win some and lose some. Hopefully it was a valuable learning experience. Still don't understand the value coming back on the Herrera trade.
Apparently it's $100k in 2023 and 2024 and an additional $100k in 2025 if he starts 5 games before the end of next year.
https://www.rsl.com/news/real-salt-lake-inks-mf-moses-nyeman-on-2023-loan-from-sk-beveren 2nd big move of the day. I think he's clearly 4th/5th on the midfield depth chart, but maybe he's got something to show that put him on The Guardians's 60 young player list in 2020. https://www.rsl.com/news/get-to-know-moses-nyeman He's player 27 (by my count/guess) for this season. Who's doing the game thread? It's only 5 days away to kick-off!
… 300k is a lot? Over 3 seasons? I’m sorry I’m lost how this is “big” especially considering the club is relying on Kreilach at striker
Before I found out it was over 3 seasons, yeah I think $300k for a player you had no intention of signing is a lot. The 1st round pick could be nice, especially if it ends up top 10. Kreilach will be playing some weird hybrid of 10 and secondary forward. If they didn't have so many bodies at the position, I think they'd be looking at a Sava level 9. They should have the money for it, but may have to wait to see what kind of roster designation Ojeda would take if they purchase him.
So they don't repeat the mistake of Soto, Booth and Ledezma? This whole thing of "Unavailable" and not counting towards the roster limit is new, so if you can pay and get promising kids, wouldn't you? They apparently don't have to play MLS minutes.
Yeah I've gathered these aren't really first-team contracts, and are some kind of new mechanism we just made up to sign them to the first-team but in a way that they're not eligible for minutes. We're above the number of HG slots that are allowed, so if we wanted Wellings or Benitez to play minutes for the team we'd have to find a roster spot for them. It makes it basically impossible for amateur content-creators since nobody actually knows who is on the roster, but I guess it works for the club. Every other North American sports league gets fans to make tons of free content for them by enabling endless talk about salary caps and rosters and imagined trades and so forth. I've always hated how MLS makes that impossible for no reason.
