""We've spent so much time waiting and the only thing left to do is sign the contract," said Rosas. "The paperwork hasn't arrived yet, but I didn't see a point in sitting home and waiting. I wanted to be here training and getting to know the players.""

I think Ive found the source of the problem.

From Sheppard all I know is that he's played for the South-Africans' Under-21 and full national sides. From Rosas, I know nothing. From Garnerto, though. He played in Chile for UC, couldn't hold a startting job (back in like '95), and like around 98, and after he was playing rather regularly for the current Argentine champions- Independiente de Avellaneda. I hope the MetroStars really give him a look.

Anyone know if the team has started the application for Mario's work permit? It sounds like it is a done deal once the letter arrives from Barcelona. I would hate to sign this guy and then he isn't able to play because he doesn't have the proper papers.

    According to www.planetfootball.com
    quote
" Gamero will try to win himself a place as a foreigner in the New York team , competing against Bolivian striker Jaime Moreno and defender Eddie Pope "

I don't get what is he competing for with Eddie Pope, i just don't get this quote, do you ?

BB told a group of reporters several weeks that the league doesn't start the visa process until the player is actually signed and they know 100% for sure he'll be with the team if he gets the visa. He said then that he expected the visa process to take another three weeks once mario had signed, and I'm assuming that is still the case.

Once his papers come in from Barca I believe he will have to leave the country before coming back in on his new work visa. So I doubt he will be training with the team (in the US anyway -- wouldn't be surprised to see him show up in Argentina) during that time. Hope that helps.

The only thing I can think of is due to salary cap. That, or the reporter got things mixed up.
