He put this tweet out before the game. As I call the #Crew96 USOC game tonight @City Stadium in Richmond, I close a 30 year circle in my soccer broadcast career and note the ⚫️🟡 are splattered all over it.In 1997, I called the @IndianaMSoccer vs UCLA College Cup semi-final here, in this building. I've really enjoyed his "Inside the Crew" podcast productions. He weaves interviews into a narrative and the first-hand account from players, coaches, and the front office has been more thorough and detailed in many cases than other press. It's definitely the Crew POV, but Doran has excellent audio and media storytelling skills, imo. Cheers @Doran
Picard found his level in this game. He’d look phenomenal in a Richmond Kickers uniform. I’d leave Nariman there too, honestly. A bag of balls and those guys are all yours.
I should know better than to comment before watching the replay. Thanks for the correction. No red boots on that pass.
Stock Up Picard - two goals, and could have had a few more with better finishing. Was lively the whole match (which he usually is, but this time with production to match). Bangoura - Bossed the midfield. Great match. Now do it against MLS opponents. Akhundzada - Multiple self-created opportunities, could have scored a few with better finishing. Herrera - Only regular starter out there and looked like it. Combined well down the right. Adams - Good to see him get some minutes. Ruvalcaba - Did fine. Rydstrom mentioned him in his post-game comments. Stock Down Gazdag - Two decent shots from direct FKs, but didn't offer much from the run of play. Is he bought out yet? Stock Level Everyone else. Honestly, I had more fun watching that than I thought. The production value of the broadcast was surprisingly good, there was a decent atmosphere in the stands, and the Crew actually won a game that they were supposed to win.
Bangoura was the best player on the field. He was a bowling ball with legs out there. Hard to tackle. He's exactly what the midfield needs, but I'm not sure he has the size and strength to match up with MLS level midfielders as he did vs USL 1. Chambost and Gomes just don't bring enough intensity.
To my eye: 442 -------------------Hagan------------------ Hererra--Ruvalcaba--Cheberko--Brown Ahkundzada--Sejdic--Bangoura--Picard -------------Gazdag-----Thiare------- I could be flip flopping the CMs. If I had to vote for best in show, it would probably be Hererra, Picard, or Bangoura. Honorable mention to Thiare. Cheberko might have had the play of the match with that clearance off the line at the start (in the air).
He will be missed, a Crew Legend. Seems like an odd time to call it quits. I wonder what the back story is on this?
Chris Doran was guest on Arace's podcast The Crewcible. I'm happy to say that all indications there were that his work with Columbus Crew is ongoing.
Continuing as the Radio Voice of The Crew and possibly/ probably doing Inside The Crew. Sounds as if his tweet was more of a celebration of the 30th anniversary of beginning his soccer broadcast career, more than concluding his career.
Looks like it is time for some Carner to Carner action then. Either that or we piss everybody off and get Sika back to do the radio so people can bitch that's he's the home radio option. WHOOOPS missed the most recent posts, scratch what I said!
