http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...-united-have-some-fun-their-unofficial-mascot It's no secret that RFK Stadium is a pretty ancient place by US standards – D.C. United's home is the oldest venue in MLS, by a safe margin – dating way back to 1961. Age plus its proximity to the Anacostia River has made it something of a wildlife haven, most famously in the form of the raccoons who are often spotted in and around the hulking stadium. That's led many – primarily fans of opposing teams – to turn the furry little creatures into something of a mascot for both the venue and its home team over the years. "Ronnie Raccoon" has starred in D.C. supporters' tifo displays, and a few years ago, a t-shirt was even made for New York Red Bulls supporters to tease their Atlantic Cup rivals with. But now D.C. United are proudly taking ownership of the meme. On Thursday, a few hours before their 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs curtain-raiser vs. Montreal, the Black-and-Red used a clever tidbit of social media to unveil their new “rally raccoons,” adorable plush varmints emblazoned with the club's logo. They're here.RT to win a rally raccoon or visit @dcuteamstore tonight to purchase this guy👇💯#DCU #BringTheFight https://t.co/ETdVHD7FIp— D.C. United (@dcunited) October 27, 2016 ------------------- I have to admit...I kind of want one of these little raccoons. It may be a ruin, but its our ruin, raccoons and all.
So much for rally raccoons. It'll go down with We Win Trophies. I miss the days of Metro Playoff Failure
A lot of people bought the last one, us included They'd bring out a few boxes at a time and they'd quickly sell out - while we were shopping the clearance racks, with "the last one" available when we walked in, we saw two boxes full snatched up - except for one, doomed to be the next "last one". Stupid to name it a "Rally" Raccoon, it caused us to be down 4 goals and have to rally My GF named ours Frank - short for the middle name of the stadium's namesake
Pretty sure they borrowed the name from St. Louis' "Rally Squirrel" Worked for them - they put it on their World Series rings: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-b...lly-squirrel-world-series-ring-160249382.html. PS: F the Cubs
Ronnie Racoon . . . OK, OK, I'll have to break down and give credit when it's due. Someone at the DCU FO came up with the idea, asked permission, ordered a large batch of the little guys, shot a promotional video, and posted it to social media --- ---- and didn't get fired for doing it. All said, that's more "soul" by the FO than we've seen on display in many these long months/years. Bravo, FO. I'm proud of ya.
You know, I think that it would be really cool if United were to add Ronnie Racoon as a life-size mascot. The racoon could serve as Talon's mischievous assistant like Bowser is Boomer's assistant for the Pacers. Just thinking out loud.
I think this idiot might have been trying to shoot one of them https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...a13d18-a1e6-11e6-a44d-cc2898cfab06_story.html
