It is the second time the Brazilian has picked up the Ballon D'Or in his career, having also won it in 1997. Ronaldo scored eight goals for Brazil during the World Cup in June, including both of their goals in the 2-0 win over Germany in the final. His Real Madrid and Brazil team-mate Roberto Carlos came second, while Oliver Kahn was third. France's Zinedine Zidane came fourth and Germany's Michael Ballack was fifth. Ronaldo received 171 points, while Robert Carlos had 145, and Kahn picked up 114. The German keeper beat the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker to the player of the World Cup award, but for the second time in a row he has only come third in the most prestigious of individual awards.
