It's time to restore the chestnut to prominence. Does Koeman get the sack at Everton? Does he then become a candidate for the NT manager position?

My prediction: Koeman will be sacked on Monday, or shortly thereafter. He will be desperate for a new gig and to get back on his feet. KNVB is having a horrid time to find a suitable willing replacement for Advocaat. KNVB and Koeman agree on a contract by virtue of being "in the right time and in the right place" - not so much by merit.

That said, I would prefer Koeman than Gullit. At least Koeman has some coaching mileages, both good and bad. Hopefully he can learn from his mistakes. He seems to work well and is influential to young kids, which is important as the Dutch NT is a complete rebuild mode.

I'm praying that he gets the NT position. Say what you want about him but right now I think he's our best option, and I don't think he's a bad coach at all. His buys were pretty poor this summer, but there's a lot more to work with for the Dutch than there was at Everton (who are shit).

Koeman really is our best option for Oranje right now.
But will he take the job?? Not exactly a talented group of guys to work with.

    We dont have another vdSar.
    Our midfield sucks
    Our wingers suck
    Our strikers suck
Our defensive future looks good however.

I think something like that happened several years ago in the South American championship when Paraguay did not win a single match and made it to the finals.

Didnt Italy make it to the 1994 world cup final by barely scoring 1 or 2 goals??
I'm too lazy to google it, but they were pretty darn close.....LOL

Seems like it is the right time to revive this thread. What is the over/under that Koeman does not finish the season at Barca manager?

Unlikely. He might not even make it to January.
Koeman and La Liga managing just don't seem to mix.

The question then becomes does KNVB take him back??

  17. There's no election coming soon for a new Barcapresident, so he will make it into januari.
The quetion is will Barca make it post Januari, given the bankruptcy threat if players donot give in to the demand of another pay cut of 30%. Remember given the current rules if Barca can't pay players, their contract are forfeited, which means they're free agents.

I haven't followed Koeman much over the last decade or so, so I'm not aware of whether or not he's evolved as a coach, but I must say that I was surprised that Barca would want a coach like him. Doesn't strike me as his style is compatible with the way Barca has always portrayed itself as playing. Has he really evolved into the kind of manager who can coach Barca's style?

  20. Anyway, given the threat of bankruptcy and the lack of money with an aging team, who will want to replace Koeman who's reputable enough to coach there. Pep already said no to the offer of one of the presidency candidates, and was it Cavi who already turned down the offer, before Koeman was asked? Things arenot looking better than before Koeman accepted, so not likely Xavi comes in.
So that's two major candidates out of the loop. Who else available and willing?

The clock is ticking and the Barca reign of Ronald Koeman continues to ebb away like the sands in an hour glass.

  23. Maybe it's just the end of an era in which Barcelona is a superclub.
They rose to stardom beginning with Koeman as a player who scored the goal to give them their first European champion's trophee and maybe that era ends with Koeman as a coach.
