Rimando Recorded Message- USA vs El Sal.

Anyone get a call with a recorded message from Nick Ramando talking about the US vs. El Salvador game?

I'm sitting at work at my desk. Phone rings, next thing I know I hear, "Hi I'm Nick Rimando, goal keeper for DC united."

I thought I had won something cool like some tickets, but all I got was just a badly read recording.

DC United and US soccer can send me all the mail that they want, but I can't stand canned marketing calls like this.

Oh well, at least they're trying to let people know about the game.

That's funny. I just got the call too. It was one of the poorest readings I've ever heard--almost as bad as your spelling ;)

    (Nick Rimando, fyi)

I know these calls are corny, but I was laughing so hard at how he read the copy.

"Pete has no cat feet. He has no seal tail. He has no mule ears..."

I am impressed that they would go about getting all of the records from Ticketmaster and make the appeal to fans. I was amused by the quality of the recording, but I was excited that what could have been a really low-key event is being sold to a national audience.

I wonder which organization is driving the ads - US National Team, Ticketmaster, DC United or what?

Not too long ago people were bit%hing and moaning about MLS not doing enough to market games.

I don't think they would have been making those calls if ticket sales were at a decent level. Just today, I checked TicketMaster to see where I'd end up if I ordered 4 seats. Section 333, which is lower bowl, top section near midfield. In other words, good seats still readily available. Or, lower bowl not sold out and weather is supposed to suck big time this weekend. I'm guessing less than 30k for this one.

Yeah I got the call too. Seemed like he was struggling with the message. Rimando went to UCLA like me. Us californias know how to read I think.

The thing is the people that get the call are already a die hard fan. No need to call us. We know about the game and time. Its the casual fan and newbies that need coaxing. A player reading the phone message makes you actually listen to all of it. Anyone else and its like hang up time. The point is did you save the message as a lark or delete it. If you saved it YOU are a REAL fan.

I wonder how many fans get the call? How did I ever give my number to DCU? I dont remember. Its gotta cost some money to make a mass call like that to many fans.

Mathis called me: "Yo, get your ass off the couch and to the game. And don't forget to bring me a carton a stoges and a keg. We're partying after."

The only spellings we are missing here are Rumando and Remando, and all of the bases would've been covered.

Maybe Flan was spelling Rimando "M/A/T/H/I/S."

Anyway, I got the call, too, which means it's going out to people who've been to DC for MLS Cup 2000 and two DC/Fire matches since then.

"Your kid can read after learning only 5 letters!"

That commercial has to be the most annoying thing going. And they runit almost every break during the Don and Mike show.
