Roma vs Real Madrid Stadio Olimpico, Rome 17th Feb 2016 20.45 CET 11.45 PT The return of the CL this week has us traveling to Rome. Its Zizou's debut in CL as manager. When the draw was made Roma were in tatters under Rudi Garcia. They have sacked him and brought back Spalletti. They've only lost one game under him, to Juve and are unbeaten in 4. For them Totti and De Rossi are expected to recover form their muscular injuries and make the squad. For us Pepe and Bale are out. Thankfully Marcelo is back in the team. Goalkeepers: Keylor Navas, Kiko Casilla and Rubén Yáñez. Defenders: Ramos, Varane, Arbeloa, Carvajal, Danilo, Marcelo and Nacho. Midfielders: Kroos, Casemiro, Isco, James Rodríguez, Modric and Kovacic. Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Jesé and Lucas Vázquez. Lets hope for away goals and no injuries. HALA MADRID
Not sure what to expect from this game. Haven't seen Roma play in a minute. Just looking for a positive result and no suspensions to key players.
Roma have signed Diego Perotti (of Sevilla fame), and registered him for the CL. He was a decent player for Sevilla in his early years there. He was injured a lot, so was sold to Genoa in 2014. I wonder if he'll start against us. Perotti and Shaarawy (another winter signing) have started the last 3 games in Serie A. Likely starting lineup for Roma... 4-2-3-1 because it's their home game, IMO: Dzeko Shaarawy - Perotti - Salah De Rossi - Nainngolan Digne - Rudiger - Manolas - Firenzi Szczesny If Spaletti goes 4-3-3, I think it'll be Pjanic starting for Perotti. Anyway, their 4-2 aggregate victory from 2008 still rankles because they kept diving and feigning injuries in those games, basically time-wasting to break our team's rhythm... so I hope we effin' smash them! Also, Seydou Keita is a twat.
I'm not exactly sure. We've played a 4231, 433, 352 and 343 since Spalletti has joined. If I had to guess. But honestly I have no idea. It could also be a 4231 -----------------Perotti----------------- -----El Shaarawy-------Salah---------- Digne---Nainggolan---Pjanic----Rudiger ---Zukanovic------DDR-----Manolas----- ------------------Sczescney--------------- Here is another predicted XI. http://romapress.us/2016/02/15/probable-formations-roma-vs-real-madrid/
That's interesting... Perotti playing as a false 9? Spaletti isn't big on Dzeko? Could be a smart way to go... i.e., start off with maximum midfielders to be safe and then have Dzeko as a substitute in case a goal is needed.
Perotti has played false 9 for a couple of games. He joined, had one practice and immediately started and looked like he has been on the team for 5 years. He's played every minute since joining and usually runs the most on the entire team. He's been everywhere.Dzeko has really struggled whether it was due to his confidence or having wingers who struggled to set him up (Gervinho/Iturbe/Salah). Although Salah has been ok in that regard.
Their attacking wingers worries me a bit, they can make their team a very different one from the team we were happy to meet 2 months ago. I'd rather keep Marcelo for the away leg but the idea of playing Carvajal as a LB and ****** Danilo on the right doesn't make me comfortable at all about not conceding enough goals to trouble us. I hope Benzema and Ronaldo step up and be clinical with their chances.
This is the away leg, unless you meant Home leg? We just need to attack and control the ball. Press them for their first touch..
Yup sorry I meant for the Bernabeu game. I'm sure we will have enough chances to score but it's a question about efficiency which leaves a lot to be desired, especially against these Italian teams.
Need a much much better defensive performance. No matter what we do up front, it could all get undone if our shaky defense doesn't turn it around.
Will Totti the legend get some game time? Hopefully he doesn't score but would be cool to see him playing about. After zizou he is my other favorite player when I was you younger. Crazy that he is still playing and almost played for Madrid at one point. Hopefully it's a good game but not sure what to expect, haven't seen a Roma game in so long. Still have bad memories of be last time we met.
I'm not sure if Totti will get some time... He hasn't played in a while, and he's been injury riddled all season... Most likely due to old age. For anyone who cares, here are some highlights from our last 4 games (Note: You'll have to watch it on youtube).
Roma is the only really likeable Serie A club. A shame we have to play against them, but that's business.
