Can we add that to the tagline?

"....Benfica of Portugal and 1860 Munich of Germany are two of seven new candidates...."

This is awful news. The better teams there, the better news coverage. The prize money would be good if we actually win, (ha ha) but if we lose with the better teams not there, that will be even worse for MLS image.

As for the SARs scare, what a bunch of bull, they just don't want to rest their players. I'll bet these players would have gone their last year if they were on a World cup team and there was a SARS scare.

If Sao Paulo pulls out, then I think we should too. Or maybe evenbetter they should bring the whole tourney over to the US with another final in the HDC!!! We can pull that off in a few weeks, right? We have 2 big empty stadiums in LA alone.

    One more...

Well, the CBF has apparently denied São Paulo authorization to participate in the tourney - they can't even send a B team:

Copa da Paz: CBF não autoriza São Paulo, O Estado de São Paulo.

Full story at: São Paulo descontará sua raiva no Goiás?, Jornal da Tarde.

The article also says that they'll have to pay a $250,000 fine for the late withdrawl.

This news is somewhat surprising. It's the middle of the Brasileirão, but São Paulo's a big club with some pull. The CBF says that they want to avoid setting a precedent that allows clubs later in the season to go on foreign tours when it's apparent that they're both out of the running for the title and safe from relegation. I suppose.

    Oh well.

    No, wait...

Maybe the tournament organizers can get Chivas to play!!!

On the other hand, it looks like all we have to do is not withdraw and we will win the pot by default when everybody else folds.

Does this mean we can change this board's tagline to "Scaring the world into cancelling the Peace Cup?"

LOL, good idea! Yeah, we need to change that tagline, mods. I mean, we did win the championship several months ago. You'd think we would've changed the tagline to pertain to that.

Maybe because it's being sponsored by Rev. Sun Myung-Moon, head of the Unification Church, which is seen as a sect or cult by some people. I think it would turn off a few people over here.

So after the match with Colorado on July 9th, it's off to the Peace Cup, right?

Now that Roma is out, who will the Dudes compete against?

    Yup.

And I hope there's a big pot 'o gold at the end of the Peace Cup rainbow for Uncle Phil, because mid-July seems like an awfully nice time to get fans to take in some matches at the HDC, before pennant races, back-to-school and college football begin.
