Brazil named their roster. Only five midfielders. I actually think Cardoso would have had a good shot of making their team if he had chosen Brazil and was healthy. I wonder if he has any regret picking US over Brazil. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...-brazil-announce-final-26-man-world-cup-squad
Why? If he’s injured right now, it doesn’t matter what national team he’s playing for. He’d still be injured and miss the tournament
yeah but if he was healthy in the fall, he’d be on the Brazil roster for copa America and their World Cup qualifiers.
Hope he comes back fine for the start of next season. Aside from one game, I haven’t seen him play the same way he does for club. Reminds me of several Germans that used to play for the US once upon a time 12 years ago.
most of our German Americans were exceptional. Jermaine Jones, Fabian Johnson, John Brooks, Danny Williams, Terrence Boyd (when healthy), and even Julian Green scored at a World Cup. Timmy Chandler was the only one who never played that well.
I forgot about Johnson playing extremely well in the WC. After that he was a shell of that WC performance.
Some of this is revisionist history. Danny Williams was never a good NT player. Terrence, who always has been a first-rate dude who does love the USMNT, never scored in 14 caps. Under no metric can you say he was a good USMNT player. He even admits this, painfully. Fabian and Jermaine were major net positives. As was Thomas Dooley. Brooks was maddening. He could be great (see Paraguay at the Copa America Centenario) or terrible (see the Costa Rica qualifier) - often in quick succession. You never knew what you'd get from him. Green was never really good for the USMNT, in part because he was never a really good player. He's like David Wagner, who was an okay player at the club level but never fit into the USMNT. Chandler's only good cap for the USMNT was his first one, against Argentina in NJ.
My main point was that all of them (save Chandler) gave 100% on the field. Brooks and Green both scored and played well at the 2014 World Cup, which is my main indicator for success. Danny Williams was unfortunately injured much of the time, so didn't get to show his talents fully. But he clearly gave it his all. Fabian was incredible, but is often overlooked among past players. Terrence Boyd was a great locker-room presence.
