At Liverpool tomorrow should put the entire team to the test. Hope Cardoso starts and passes the test.
Still out … “As confirmed by Mundo Deportivo, after taking full part in training on Saturday, Julián Alvarez and Dávid Hancko are set to be given the green light to face Mallorca. Missing out once more, on the other hand, will be a quartet of Atléti stars, namely Álex Baena, José María Giménez, Thiago Almada and Johnny Cardoso.”
"Jose Maria Gimenez, Alex Baena, and Thiago Almada are all sidelined with muscle injuries and are not expected to return until early October. Johnny Cardoso is also unavailable after suffering an ankle injury during Monday’s training session." Wait, what? I thought he was already injured. Is this a new injury or an earlier injury?
Frustrating ... "Johnny Cardoso has been hit with another setback on his quest to return to fitness. According to Diario AS, the American picked up a knock in Tuesday’s training session that wasn’t serious, but is being treated with utmost caution by the club. Cardoso was to train in a progressive way and was going to finish his session before his teammates anyway, but the hit taken to the recovering ankle meant he was withdrawn even earlier than planned. The midfielder did not train Wednesday, and it appears unlikely that he will play Saturday against Osasuna."
Some guys peak at the right time. Johnny's troughing. I imagine long term it will all work out, he's a talented guy, but his injury and the timing of it may cost him his spot for both club and country this year. He's going to have a lot of ground to make up.
Still out for the UCL match against Arsenal. Which is just as well since basically every Rojiblanco not named Julian Alvarez looked like an absolute bum.
Inching ever closer, if only at a snail’s pace … “El Cholo {Simeone} did not blame his midfield for Tuesday’s thumping defeat {v Arsenal} in North London; he is poised to select the same quartet, with Johnny (ankle) possibly in line to return from his injury against his former team. Johnny has struggled for fitness since he completed a €24 million transfer to Atlético from Betis in July; if he does not play at La Cartuja, he should be in contention for Saturday’s home game against Sevilla.”
Not expecting Johnny to start today, but this sounds encouraging ... Diego Simeone on Johnny Cardoso “He hasn’t played for over 40 days. He has recovered quite well, he is progressing in training in terms of what we need from him, and he is an option to start tomorrow.” https://www.intothecalderon.com/atl...lvarez-barrios-johnny-cardoso-conor-gallagher
Athletico has not lost in La Liga in Johnny's absence. Going into the season he looked like a lock starter... will likely have to prove himself all over again. Two months since he has seen the pitch :-(
Trying not to get my hopes up, but ... "Elsewhere, Johnny Cardoso could be in line to make his Champions League debut for the club after not featuring against Sevilla ..." Atletico host Union Saint-Gilloise today in CL action.
He's fallen way down the pecking order. Will have to beat out Gallagher, at least, for some minutes or wait for other injuries to open the door
His ceiling is a very good player for top 10 La Liga side. That's fine. Injuries haven't helped. First bit of stumbling blocks for a pretty metoric rise, career wise.
