    Rodrigo Faria??

I was watching an A-League game and there was a player named Faria. I started to wonder whatever happened to Rodrigo. He was a fairly consistent goal scorer, although not that popular around here. A good running mate for a Mathis type player that took chances and left rebounds. Anyone got a line on him?

He was too inconsistent. Scored a good amount but at the same time missed way too may sitters.

    He was the pre woly.

The guy people who are looking for an Henri at 30k loved to hate.

He only scored on about 10% of his chances, but created more than all the other Metros combined.

Also, he was young and could have improved.

More an issue was his late arrivings and in Chicago his non arriving.

Faria was talented, but does anyone- honestly, anyone- think that Bradley would put up with him for 5 minutes? The not showing up, the "visa" problems...if he's on the team in January, he'd have been out of here by March 1st.

I always wanted to like Faria, but sometimes he made it hard. For the goal and celebration in the 3-2 win vs. DC coming from 2-0 down in the 80th or so minute...will always love the guy.

Yea, he was awesome. He ALWAYS got the crowd excited and everyone was into the game, even though he missed too many chances. Either way, I defintly wouldnt mind having him come off the bench instead of Galvan Rey. He was my favorite player at the time and I would love to see him back on the team.

    You can say that again.

I don't think you can complain about Faria and praise Woly. Both seem to able to be at the right place at the right time. Faria may miss more, but he was a lot more active on the field than Woly is.

Faria was waived by SJ when he didn't show up preseason. if you try a search, i think there's been an answer to where he is now somewhere in this subforum

I head Rodrigo was last seen by exit 16W trying to hit the ball off one of the billboards on the side of the road but the ball keeps coming off his foot at 90 degree angles for some reason.

The guy did show a lot of passion ofr us, which I always enjoyed seeing....too bad he couldn't turn that emotion into some goals. I think the sponsors of the ad boards to the right and left of the net paid Faria at the end of the year for extra exsposure.

He WAS in San Jose in 2003. I think we are talking about 2 different men named Faria.
San Jose's Faria went back to Brazil before the 2004 season and left the team, never to be heard from again.

I noticed there was a newer Faria thread, so I found this one. Just wanted you to know that Faria left the Quakes because his father died and he returned to Brazil to help out his family.

Look the guy scored goals for the Metros...but he didn't just miss chances....he would miss sitters, shots that my grandmother could roll in. It was incredible. One of the major reasons he got so many chances I think is that other teams wouldn't mark him as tight.

Rodrigo Faria was one of the many Metro fan favorites who left us and won a championship somewhere else.

He was one of those players everybody hated for going to Brazil for Carnival and not showing up on time.
I think he was redeemed, though, when his father died, and he had a few months where he returned to Brazil, quit for a while, played pick up soccer, then came back to San Jose, and honored his father's memory by scoring the overtime goal that let SJ beat LA and go to MLS Cup.
Then, he left and was never heard from again. At least he went out at the top.
Personally, I think it would spoil his legacy if he had another comeback, but I too would prefer him to SGR.

He also made something out of nothing. He shanked some shots, but he was much better player then Glen and Taylor and whoever Nick thinks will change this team around and make it the next best thing. We yelled at Faria because he missed, we yelled and Cornell and Fabian because they would flop with their EVERY possession.

Faria had three goals and one assist in the playoffs agains the Galaxy. How many did those two have versus DC?

He was pretty terrible when he played for the Fire. The FO cut him a lot of slack. He always had "visa" problems around Carnivale. He dad passed away while he was with us, which is terrible for the guy, but then he pretty much just never came back. We traded his rights to SJ for a lint roller or something. I never liked him on the Fire.

Don't just about every international player join their team during Carnivall season? I believe Valencia had issues with this...was he in Brazil too?

You cant really blame Faria for losing interest. He wanted to play here in NJ where he felt comfortable and once he got traded, after putting in a a couple of good seasons, I think he just became disillusioned. His dad died and he probably just said "F it, Im making peanut playing somewhere I dont want to be, my dad just died, time for a change". I dont think he ever grew as a professional, he just wanted to be in a confortable situation and once his whole world turn upside down he just gave up. Thats the way life is in MLS everyone gets traded someday even if they do well, and play hard. Makes you think of what the point of it is if the next day you will be traded because you asked for a pay raise.

I spoke to faria a couple of times, what he REALLY wanted was to play well here and get signed by a Brazilian team. Thats what he told me word for word. Problem is Brazilian teams are "Suspicious" of soccer players from "lesser" soccer nations. He also told me he didnt need soccer to survive. He came from a somewhat well to do family in Brazil. How do you think a Brazilian kid gets to come to the US to go to college. Thats not just any family in Brazil that can do that, scolarship or not.
