    The Rochester Freedom?????

    I'M KIDDING!!!!

    From the Democrat and Chronicle...

    http://www.rochesterdandc.com/sports/columns/1219story1_columns.shtml

Ain't the Rhinos one of the USL's leage leaders in attendance? I have seen several Rhinos games on FSWD and the crowds for these matches are very enthusiastic abou their team. Don't know how well this translates to the women's game though.

The USWNT last played there in 1998 when they defeated the Ruskies 4-0. It was a sellout with 13,125 folks in attendance.

    Good idea or bad idea?

Throw 'em a bone with an exhibition game. But we can't ever establish a meaningful home field advantage if we give away home regular season games.

    depends on the season
    all right upstate ny!!!!!! wooooo!
Rochester gets great attendance for rhino games (even though the community is against their new stadium) and there will be a team in syracuse next year. there are also a lot of colleges with teams (as well as the hall of fame about 2 hours away)
anyhow, i'll come and bring friends in force to support soccer in upstate.

Against the stadium? Catch up on your Rochester news. The Brown Square group backs them. I back them. The state backs them. I think the only groups/people not backing the new stadium are the sports authority and Jack Doyle which equates to no one.

well i'm certainly glad that things have changed- 2 weeks ago i saw a thing on the local news about a group of homeowners getting ready to protest the new stadium.

    Possible expansion/relocation bid?

IIRC, the stadium is supposed to use FieldTurf or whatever it is they use in Boston for the Breakers.

    Hmm....

I seriously wonder sometimes if the WUSA would be better off setting up teams in smaller cities with lively soccer support rather than trying to compete with all the other pro teams in a major metropolitan area. In the Washington, DC, area if you want to support a women's pro team the Mystics are first on the list.

Who would they play? I know Rochester has a W-league team called the Ravens.

I don't know if they are affliated with the Rhino's at all however.

    1) Another WUSA team...probably the Power.
    2) A W-League team...the Cyberrays did this last season. They played against the Memphis Mystics or something like that.
    3) Some international club like Arsenal LFC. Cyberrays played them during the 2002 season in Omaha or Tulsa or some other midwest town. I think it was Tulsa.

From the 1/28/03 edition of the Rochester newspaper...

    http://www.rochesterdandc.com/sports/columns/0128story1_columns.shtml

    EDIT

I just looked at the schedule for May 31...
    Beat v Spirit
    Courage v Charge
    Cybercrabs v Breakers

So I guess if this DH does go through then the only team the Freedom could play on May 31st is the Power.

So would this mean that the Freedom and Power don't get a bye week or would they get a replacement bye week sometime during the season.

Or am I just not making any sense???

    --------------

    EDIT AGAIN

If this match does happen and everything else stays the same, then the Freedom and Power would have one additional game under their belt so therefore if things needed to balance out then both teams would have to be given a makeup bye week somewhere in there. I'm too lazy to look at the entire WUSA schedule to see how this would work.

Just heard from milbrett who is at the stadium right now. Several things she mentioned:

    1) It's "PTH Hell" there.
    2) It's raining. :(

I'll try to post score updates throughout the match if I hear from her.

With about 10 mins left in the first half the Freedom are up 2-1. L-Squared scored twice and Mia assisted on both goals. Boxx scored for the Power.

Nicci Wright is in goal for the Freedom and according to milbrett she is looking good.

Webber is in goal for the Power and sucks.

Just got a call from milbrett at halftime. It's really pouring now. Thank God she is wearing a Marmot PreCip jacket (I've got one of those as well). However she is only wearing a pair of shorts so she is freezing.

Despite the rain she said that it's a nice crowd.

At halftime they honored Abigail. They retired her jersey and they did some other crap.

Really damn good attendance today. 7,764. That's like more than some WUSA stadiums.

And Welsh scored to tie it up at 2-2.
