Who does the Play-by-Play for Rochester on the radio? Who ever it is, he's amazingly good. Really, I think that's what a Spanish announcer would sound like if I could understand any other word then "Gol." If anyone gets a chance they should check this guy out on Rochester's webcast. It's a treat to hear an exceptional American Play-by-Play guy.
If it is the same guy on the radio broadcast, it's Don Stevens. He is also the voice of the Rochester Americans (Amerks) the local AHL hockey team. He can be quite a homer, but his positional descriptions and method of calling the game are very visual. Whenever I hear him on the radio I can almost see the game. What's really cool is seeing the videos highlights on the news after hearing Don's description and I be damned if the play doesn't unfold as previously imagined in in my mind's eye. IMHO, his hockey play-by-play experience really helps his ability to call a soccer. Toby Charles he ain't, but in an straight audio medium he's the best I've heard.
Some one needs to send ESPN a tape of this guy. Honestly it's the most entertaining announcer I've heard in a long time. If he can translate that same kind of emotion and play calling on TV, I really think American Soccer would have it's Dick Vital or John Madden. That's how impressed I am with this guy.
Send a tape to ESPN? So it can end up in a cylindrical device somewhere? ESPN don't care about soccer. He should send one to FSW as well just to make sure somebody sees it. Oh yeah, Don is yet another reason why the Rhinos are one of the top five best run sports franchises in the WORLD. I let Frank DuRoss (the majority owner) know about your complimentary thoughts on the job Don does. He actively participates in the Rhinos Internet Forums where I posted a link to this thread. Frank's participation here is another reason why the Rhinos are one of the top five best run sports franchises in the WORLD.
