Rocco Rios Novo '02 is a CA Lanus goalkeeper and plays for Argentina U17. In Argentina he is considered the best goalkeeper '02. He won the South American U15 and U17 I had seen that @Dave Marino-Nachison mentioned this some time ago in Detective thread. I don't trust Transfermarkt data 100%, but I saw that in his Facebook profile has Los Angeles as his birthplace. I did an investigation and apparently his family is of Mexican origin. Also in an ESPN question / answer game he says his father was born in the United States. It's good to know that there are other Yanks in Argentina. https://www.transfermarkt.us/rocco-rios/profil/spieler/661126 https://www.facebook.com/rocco.riosnovo https://www.espn.com.ar/video/clip/_/id/5454298 (Spanish)
Great stuff, @Luksarus. I had held off because of the presence of the Los Angeles in Argentina, and because I hadn't heard back from the club, but I would never have found that Spanish interview. Rios seems like a pretty solid prospect. Has several AYNT appearances to his name, and may (off the top of my head, not 100% sure) be provisionally cap-tied to them.

'02 US-born GK Rocco Rios Novo is with the C.A. Lanús first team for the 2020 preseason. He started 12 of 13 matches for Argentina U17 in CONMEBOL qualifying and the World Cup. Lanús have another American, '04 F Cameron Johnson, who was with the US U15s last year. https://t.co/DdLehRZ1IL— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) January 7, 2020
Was just playing around on TM and was surprised to see this kid as the 4th most valuable U18 keeper. Wonder if there's been any contact.
I'm too lazy to look it up now, but I believe Arch Bell has written on Twitter and perhaps elsewhere that U.S. Soccer is at least "tracking" him, which could of course mean just about anything.
Apparently there have been some links between him and Atlanta. https://www.dirtysouthsoccer.com/at...o-rios-novo-on-loan-as-part-of-moreno-signing

Atlanta bound: Looks like Los Angeles-born and Argentina U20 GK Rocco Ríos Novo is headed to Atlanta United on loan. Rocco posted photos on Instagram today indicating that he was U.S. bound. https://t.co/WbJ2gP8mAn— Arch Bell (@ArchBell) January 28, 2021

An interesting way to make his first team debut for Atlanta United: .@atlutd2 goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo is about to get his first appearance for @ATLUTD after Brad Guzan is sent off.Rios Novo is on a short-term agreement that saw him called up to the First Team. The Los Angeles native is on loan from Argentina's Lanus. #SCCL21 #ATLUTD— Nicholas Murray (@NJEMurray) April 7, 2021 Entering the game for @AtlantaUnited is 18-year-old Rocco Rios Novo. Never heard of him? He was signed to a 4-day contract Monday on loan from Atlanta United 2. Rios Novo, born in Los Angeles and raised in Argentina, was signed on loan from Lanus a month ago. #CCL— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) April 7, 2021
Did anyone watch this? He preserved the shutout, and Atlanta allowed 17 shots total. Many of them had to be after Guzan's red card in the 43rd minute. Seems like it wasn't a goalkeeper-as-spectator kind of shutout... Also, somehow he picked up a yellow card, too.
he was what you would expect, raw and unpolished but clearly talented. struggled to hold on to a few balls a more experienced keeper would smother, but never gave up on plays and showed a remarkable nose for following rebounds. i would describe it as a gutsy performance that showed a very good shotstopper who needs refinement. kind of guy you would expect a club to sign and develop tbh.
6 saves & MOTM: 🙌 Rocco Ríos-Novo came in as a substitute and tallied 6 saves to keep a clean sheet making him the Man fo the Match! 🎉 | @ATLUTD #SCCL21 pic.twitter.com/CdOk9CFzqe— Concacaf Champions Cup (@TheChampions) April 7, 2021
Agreed. I'll go a step further and say that he looked confident and the stage didn't look too big for him. I was impressed. Very gutsy, as you said. A good season in the USL Championship will do the kid a world of good. Just in 60 minutes of action, you good see there in a foundation in which to build on.
Went back to Lanus at the end of last season, but is returning on loan since Atlanta has a GK crisis: Can confirm that Rocco Ríos Novo is coming back to Atlanta United on (a paid) loan. Much needed GK depth and competition. The stache is back. https://t.co/u4O6tWqpRn— Felipe Cárdenas (@FelipeCar) April 22, 2022
Loan confirmed: 📰 | #ATLUTD signs goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo on loan from @ClubLanus— Atlanta United FC (@ATLUTD) April 27, 2022
Rocco Rios Novo, after leaving ATL United, has signed it USL-C side Phoenix Rising on loan from Lanús. Good move for him and he should be competing and earning the starting job for PHX.
The loan was extended, which I guess confirms he's still on the books at Lanus. https://www.uslchampionship.com/news_article/show/1297492
