Basically he's a purely attacking midfielder, so he was stuck playing on the left wing, which is not his natural position. He's also too slow for the EPL.
He is slow and small..he needs to pull up a chair and chow down at a buffet bar. He does not have a good workrate.
Robson has to take some of the blame for the way he has failed to develop the player's skills. Let's face it, Hugo's never going to acclimate to the English game by watching from the bench. Robson has another young central midfielder (Jermaine Jenas), who he plays match and match out. Jenas had an outstanding debut season last year, but he has struggled this year. Still, he is always out there. Robson could certainly deploy a formation that would make up for Hugo's weaknesses. Instead, he would rather suffer through 0-0 draws with Charlton (yesterday), and comment that he is happy with the draw.
The problem is Robson though he was getting the next Figo and not the next Rui Costa. He has played him exclusively on the wing, which is not his position (He is too slow) He is a creative midfielder. He can also manage a game well.
Juve, You are right in that Viana is too slow to play wing, but you have to wonder if Robson ever saw him play. If he had, he would have seen that Hugo could never handle the demands of playing on the wing.
I Agree, if he needed a wing he should went after Quaresma instead, Ronaldo at the time was still uncertain.
