I wouldn't jump the gun and say it's official just yet. We've been burned by false rumours in the past and Santos' management is denying the whole thing. Some Dutch guys were even saying that newspapers there are claiming a deal is done with PSV so I'll wait until Jan 1st before jumping for joy.

i talked with some dutchies and they said that PSV gave up of him  they think that benfica already have deal with him..well but after all that i saw of this board i only believe when he starts training, otherwise he isn't benfica's player..i still have bad memories of Ricardo and Marco Ferreira's deal...and much more..like B.Gama..Polga..

I don't know about you but I sure am glad that the Ricardo deal never happened. Moreira is younger and better...And the best part is: SCP is stuck with him now. :D

Yesterday, for the first time, the Brazilian press started to talk about it, quoting the Portuguese press.

O presidente do Santos, Marcelo Teixeira, negou nesta quarta-feira qualquer negociação envolvendo o atacante Robinho.

    But then...

LONDON (AFP) - Chelsea were reported to have completed the 10 million pound signing of 20-year-old Santos striker Robinho but he will first join Benfica until the 2006-2007 season.

    AFP/File Photo

Robinho inspired Santos to the Brazilian title in 2002, their first success since Pele's team won it 34 years ago.

He will join Portuguese club Benfica in January, the Daily Mail reported.

Robinho, whose dribbling has earned him comparisons with Pele, has scored 35 goals in 90 matches in the Brazilian league.

Chelsea were reported to have agreed a deal with Benfica after their club president Luis Filipe Vieira was a guest of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich when the Russian billionaire moored his yacht in Lisbon harbour during Euro 2004.

The deal suits Chelsea because they would have been unable to get a work permit for Robinho right now.

They did the same deal with Brazilian centre back Alex last March when they funded his 4.2 million pound transfer from Santos to Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

Robinho's agent Wagner Ribeiro told the Mail the Benfica move was ideal for his man.

"They speak Portuguese as in Brazil, the climate is mild and the Portuguese are like brothers," he added.

Here we go again. This morning, www.ojogo.pt says that the deal is getting complicated because of the interest of other clubs. Once again the media jumped the gun on saying it was a done deal. The Santos President was quoted as saying "as long as I'm president, Robinho will not be sold."

On the other hand, Abola reports that we'll have to wait until next week for confirmation on whether or not Robinho is on his way to Portugal.

Another chapter in the Benfica novela.

I read on Sky Sports that because Chelsea has good relations with both Benfica and PSV, they would buy Robinho and let him decide where he wants to play, Benfica or PSV. Also, Inter Milan are interested and may make an offer for him.

Robinho will sign for Benfica and it is being paid with Chelsea's money (£10m). He will sign for Chelsea in a couple of years when he is able to obtain a work permit.
