Real Madrid start Roberto Carlos has revealed that he is targeting a move to Arsenal when his contract at the Bernabeu expires.

The 29-year-old Brazilian international's current deal with the Spanish giants expires in 2004.

He wants to play in the Premiership and Arsenal are the top of his list as they fellow Brazilians Gilberto Silva and Edu already at the club.

He is quoted as saying in the News of the World: "I am ready to play in the English Premier League and know it will be suitable for me.

"When my contract finishes that is definitely my priority and at Arsenal there are fellow Brazilians.

"I think as a club they are like Real Madrid - they have supreme confidence that looks utterly unbreakable.

"When a team is like that, they are difficult to beat. They have a great squad, a fantastic coach and a balanced team."

He added: "When Brazilians come into different environments, it's useful to have a few of them together.

"When Edu plays with Gilberto, Arsenal play a different kind of football. It works.

"In England I would love to have the company of other Brazilians - we could win things quicker.

"I have been to London a few times and I am sure I would enjoy it."

    Mario,
Not sure where you got that information from but I just read an article on Roberto in FOURFOURTWO magazine,March edition. In the article they asked Carlos would he like to play aboard in England for example, and his response was,and I quote"No,but I would love to play at Anfield. It was a shame that Liverpool got knocked out of the Champions League.I've played at Wembley, but I really want to experience Anfield at some stage-it's a special place. So to you Gunner fans, don't get your hopes up because R.C wants to play for the EPL's best,LIVERPOOL.

It sounds to me like he wants to play in the stadium, and not with their team. As his answer shows to the question if he'd like to play abroad:

    "NO"

    :)

He said on Marca that he'd like to play for Inter again someday, and I also believe he'd sooner go to Italy than England.

    welcome newbies!

NOw that I've heard so many news I have one conclusion: he just wants to sign a new contract as soon as possible, it is impossible all of a sudden he wants to move EVERYWHERE when less than 6 months ago he stated he would retire with the merengue shirt, that or he's thinking out loud where he would like to play (not likely)

    It goes like this:

Journalist: So, how would feel playing for Real/ManU/Juve/Milan/Liverpool/Barca/Arsenal/Inter?

Big Superstar: I would love to play in England/Italy/Spain. It's a great country, blahblah. It would be an honour to play for Real/ManU/Juve/Milan/Liverpool/Barca/Arsenal/Inter, they have so much tradition, blahblah, to play in a mythical stadium like the Barnabeu/Old Trafford/Del Alpi/ Anfield/San Siro/Nou Camp/Highbury would be a dream come true.

Your very cynical T.A.W,I LIKE IT!Actually your take on this Carlo's "rumour" is probably the closest to the truth than any of ours.SHOW ME THE MONEY, is what I am thinking.I have found in the past that athlete's are some of the "best" spin doctors there are out there when it comes to discussing there intentions.
