"I am ready to play in the English Premier League and know it will be suitable for me," he told the News of the World.

"When my contract finishes that is definitely my priority and at Arsenal there are fellow Brazilians."

"I think as a club they are like Real Madrid - they have a supreme confidence that looks utterly unbreakable," he said.

"When a team is like that, they are difficult to beat. They have a great squad, a fantastic coach and a balanced team.

"Everyone is relaxed and knows their position in the club and I know they can achieve unimaginable success. I have discussed this with Gilberto Silva and he has told me what to expect at Arsenal."

"When Brazilians come into a different environment like England, it´s useful and intelligent to have a few of them together.

"When Edu plays with Gilberto, Arsenal play a different kind of football. It works.

"So in England I would love to have the company of other players from Brazil, that would make my introduction a lot smoother, and we could win things quicker."

"I have been to London a few times and I am sure I would enjoy its attractions with my family. Who would not like to live there?"

Isn't he a left back? Do we have any need for him, especially considering how much cash he'll want?

    Or his age.

He's 30 and it's only downhill from there for a footballer.

Yes, he is a left back with sketchy defending skills. But when he shifts gears, few people can keep up with, let alone stop him. And then there's the cannon on that left foot.
I've seen him three times (twice with Brazil, once with Madrid) and never did he show that particular Brazilian strain of laziness. Having said all that, I don't think he'll be making the trip north.

He does play in other spots as well and may be the most deadly free kick specialist in the world. Depending on the fee Id say go for it but unless its a Bosman I will guess Madrid will want 20+. At that price no thanks.

I've heard that news as well, but don't forget it's from The News of the World!!! I used to buy that newspaper for their Sunday football news, but most of the time, they weren't true. They're quite famous for making rumours.

It's just talk. He may even be trying to get a new and improved contract with Real. Even if he is serious, I doubt we'd have much use for him in two years (although I'd certainly take him today).

for Brazil R. Carlos plays on the left side of the midfield. I'm not sure about Real but i think he plays in the back there.

I would'nt want to live in London. I recently spent two months there and it did'nt even come close to being a great place to live when compared to Boston, Washington D.C., Chicago, Kansas City, Columbus, Denver, LA, Bay Area, Dallas, NYC. London is a dark, dreary, smelly place that has lost its title as center of the world. Come to the States Roberto, maybe you could be the new centerpiece on the Cosmos, Pele will be there and he is Brazilian, also bring along Ronaldo, so you are more comfortable.

he he.. that sounds a bit bias to me :p

Then again, I did smell something on the train yesterday and it was HORRIBLE!!! I'm just glad it was only one stop. At first, I thought it was a homeless guy, but couldn't see any, so it must have been someone's BIO!!!!

IMO, i found london as one of the best places i have ever lived.. i thought it was fantastic with brilliant people who do not have that arrogant attitude that you find in NYC or Chicago... i think london gets a bad rap cuz of the pissy rain and the chilling cold, but the other attributes make it superb~ Now if i can only get my freakin visa, I will defo make it back to jolly ol'blighty~
    cheers

As featured in my "current news" item, Roberto CARLOS has stated that he will NOT be coming to Arsenal and wants Real Madrid to start work on a new contract.
I fancy that is nearer the truth, than anything printed in the "News of the World".
(P.S. Somehow I don't exactly see Kansas comparing to London!) (Or some of the other places mentioned!!).

News of the World = rumors of all kinds. And how do you compare London to someplace like Columbus? Try again. By the way, why is MLS rapidly becoming the nursing home for retired, or retiring, Euro players? Is that all that people go to MLS games for? Old Euro has-beens, and (next year) Adu? That's why footie isn't ad big as it deserves to be over here... OK rant over.

    Vive le AFC!

the league is seven years old and the Cosmos aren't even a team no less an MLS team, so there wouldn't be any Euro nursing home would there. Get it straight or don't talk about the MLS.

FYI, people such as myself goto MLS games to see the ever growing crop of new talent and current US stars. Players that recently knocked Mexico out of the World Cup, players that upset Portugal, and players that were robbed of their chance of Germany because of a non call on one of the most blantant hand balls ever (not the most '86 England fans ;) ) Players such as McBride, who has goals in two different World Cups and has impressed at Everton. Players such as Mathis, who scored one of the best goals of WC'02. The list goes on and on ...
Hear that? listen up .... it's your Euro retirement theory going down the drain.

As for RC, Arsenal don't need him and with him speaking about it recently it's a dead issue.
