Pires' is seperated if not already divorced. He moved out of his current place & is shacked up with his new girlfriend. All this co-incided with his dip in-form at the start of the season. I think sometime we forget players are human and have problems outside of the sport.

Nice quote Boston - it's too bad that George Best has a drinking problem again. First he gets a new liver and then gets on a drinking binge again . . . nice . . . then his second wife (who has stood by him to get over his drinking) tries to get him to stop and threatens to leave him if he doesn't change . . . she leaves him anyhow when she catches him in bed with another woman. His second wife is quite young as well (well way younger than him I'd say) . . . I guess some guys never change. I think Best was amazing (watch old films on him - the guy is genius) but it's hard to be sympathetic to a guy who's had it all (the women, the riches, the glory) and now is wasting it away.

George Best was one of the first superstars I ever saw play in the US. Absolutely amazing. But it is very hard to like the guy. I have to confess when I was watching the "History of Football" DVD set, the interview with Georgie made me pause and think, "Well, maybe he's not so bad after all..." I even felt a little sorry for him. Then he gets to the line, a pure classic in modern apropos. "They're all waiting for me to fall off the wagon again, but they're going to wait a long time." Sigh.

What's not to like? Listen, no one is saying Best is a first choice role model, but this guy did it all. He was a genius on the pitch, and a genius off of it. He was the rock and roll star of his era, a european cowboy, the Clint Eastwood of the EPL if you will.. He played hard, partied harder, and had more one liners than 1/2 the league put together. Its too bad he took it to such an extreme.
