Defense was very bad but the offense was good we had plenty of chances on goal. We have the advantage and will win the group if we tie vs Qatar.
Having only watched the highlights I can go on what I can see and other performances but Maynor really has lost a step. I might be wrong but I think he's given more then one penalty away over the past year and I think that's indicative of him just been a bit of the pace of games. El Romantico is back baby! He looked unplayable last night, I never appreciated he has a technical element to his game too. I often thought he was mainly an explosive front man.
... that's not to say Maynor doesn't have anything else to offer at this level. I think his experience and leadership is definitely invaluable but perhaps having off the bench to sure things up when we clearly struggle with game management might be a good option. Also, shame about Moya having an appendicitis. Looks like he'll miss the whole tournament, I was hoping he'd put a strong showing in and that might help him raise his profile for a move away from Angola. I think time is against him. Hope he's doing okay.

Hopefully he will still consider us, it’s messed up that his team didn’t allow him to join the U23. USA are going to get so aggressive trying to cap tie him now that he has been called up to the first team.
I have always been critical of Coito and his experiments on the field, it’s crazy to me that Kevin Lopez and Bryan Rochez are not on this roster. The CB problem is real, Maynor has lost his step and Coito doesn’t even have a realistic 3rd option on the team. Leveron can play CB but he is much better off as LB because he has shown that he can press forward with ball. That problem might be fixed after the Olympics though with Carlos Melendez, Wesley Decas and Denil Maldonado as options.
Alberth Elis ruled out for the rest of the Gold Cup with a tiny fracture in his foot after a lousy Panamanian stepped on him at the end of the first half. https://www.diez.hn/copaoro/1478855...a-fuera-copa-oro-2021-con-honduras-por-lesion That’s the fourth Honduran to be ruled out with an injury since the start of the Gold Cup. Ever Alvarado suffered a lumbar injury in Houston and was replaced by Marcelo Santos right before the first game. Similar story for Michael Chirinos who tore a ligament in his knee during practice in Houston and will miss six additional months, he was replaced by Franklin Flores. Marcelo Pereira has missed the first two games with a muscle injury but has been kept since they feel he will recover before the tournament is over, his absence has caused Kevin Alvarez to slot over from RB to CB. This on top of Edwin Solano and Carlos Fernandez being temporarily ruled out after having tested positive for COVID after the Grenada game...
I hope so. Though I must say, I think the players that shine at the Olympics have often faded into obscurity or turned out not to have the careers that we might have expected. I'm thinking of players like Erick Norales, David Velasquez, Oscar Salas etc. With that being said, we only need one of that bunch to come good and provide another alternative for it to be a productive tournament. Anything else would be a bonus. If Denil Maldonado has a good tournament, then brings that to his club game, that would do for me. The key thing is getting the CB pairing established before the start of Qatar qualifying. Can't be experimenting, chopping and changing whilst we've started the process.
Many from the past U23 have not been given a chance, Kevin Lopez, Michael Chirinos, Bryan Rochez and Jonathan Paz are all good enough to be on the NT. He should have tried out Paz/Pereira as the CB pairing at least once, they were supposed to be the future and yet Coito can’t go one game where he starts someone over Maynor, Boniek should not even be on the Squad right now either. Coito has also finally woken up and realized that Acosta and Flores need to be the midfield pairing and Kevin Alvarez has only just returned to the NT and is doing good as a RB.
I don't understand how Paz only has 1 cap. Even if Maynor and Boniek were still world beaters surely the Federation would have to say that there needs to be some development of the next generation. If it all goes south and we have to start throwing other CBs into the starting 11 during qualifying it's not going to end well. I don't want to be undone by poor defending for another qualifiers either.

According to Diez, Andy Najar has a offer on the table via Boavista and an unspecified Belgian Club. https://www.diez.hn/legionarios/147...gal-reemplazo-reggie-cannon-hondureno-belgica He is a starter at DC right now and is regaining form, idk if he should leave right now but an offer like this may never come again.
