With the seismic news today it's easy to forget there is a match tomorrow (Saturday). The game will start at 8pm. On paper, it sure looks like a loss for the 'Pids. Trusty is gone, Kaye is gone and Price is injured. Nicholson is back. Will Fraser revert to a 4 man back line with Trusty on his way to England? 1545372877230288896 is not a valid tweet id
1-1 draw, goal by Rubio. FSL has been struggling a bit, which is the only reason I think we can get a point out of this game. As much as I hate to predict we'll lost the RMC with no Price and no ready replacements for Trusty or Kaye I don't see how we get 3 points tomorrow. The Cup, and the season, will likely be lost by the end of the night.
In one of the greatest upsets in Rapids history, a 3-0 victory with goals by...who plays on our team again? Yeah, goals by those guys.
Nicholson with the start in his first game back in burgundy: 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐗𝐈 🆚: Real Salt Lake🏟: Rio Tinto Stadium⏰: 8:00 PM MT📻: @AltitudeSR, @AltitudeTV #️⃣: #RSLvCOL📝: https://t.co/g7Dwmx7ih4@MyKingSoopers pic.twitter.com/h6qnNBroTd— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) July 10, 2022 Presumably a 3-4-3? Abubakar - Wilson - Rosenberry Beita - Acosta - Max - Nicholson Lewis - Zardes - Rubio (Or, I guess another possibility would be 4-2-1-3, but not likely) Beita - Abubakar - Wilson - Rosenberry Acosta - Max Rubio Lewis - Zardes - Nicholson Would prefer that setup personally but Fraser really likes the hybrid back 3/5. Either way, good to have Nicholson back in the swing of things! Wonder why Beita is starting over Esteves. Midweek game could have something to do with that LETS GO WIN THE CUP BOYS! It may be the only thing we have this season….
FWIW, the last time Nicholson played wingback in Burgundy was in a 3-0 against Dallas in 2019. Fraser was coach:
Both head coaches in the Rocky Mountain Cup have coached (one as head, one as assistant) for the other team.
How long has Pablo been in MLS? How is it possible the FSL announcers still don't pronounce Mastroeni correctly? (The r comes before the e guys)
Through 30' neither team has done anything of note. Max and Nicholson have given the ball away repeatedly. Zardes' only contribution has been heading a RSL free kick away. Not a knock on him - we seem to have no idea how to get him the ball.
Wilson actually outruns an attacker to the ball, then loses it and has to foul. And gets a caution. Fortunately RSL don't cash in. At the risk of repeating myself, Wilson can't defend.
For the second time my screen has said "GOAL" but again it's wrong. Max misses a shot he really needs to make.
Savario scores with what was probably the last real kick of the half. He was wide open about 22 yards out - no pressure on him at all - and he got it in the corner of the goal past Yarbrough. 1-0
Looking at the goal, complete miscommunication between Lalas and Keegan. Its Lalas' man but Keegan closes him down first. Lalas peels off and starts to drop back but Keegan runs past Sabario to take the outside midfielder. When Lalas realizes that he tries to come back to the ball but its too late. Also a question as to where Nicholson was, as you would expect him to be on the outside mid Keegan was headed to.
My question would be "where was Acosta?" But you're right - neither of the others distinguished themselves on the play.
And now a caution for Acosta chasing back to defend. I thought he'd be playing deeper tonight given the lineup
