As far as Mexico goes, I am excited as any other US National Team fan about the upcoming match up between the two super powers of the CONCACAF (that is sort of like saying the richest country in Africa regardless). But what I have come to realize is that the US lacks an alternative rivalry. We can play Mexico every year but that won't give us any new passion or renewed sense of purpose towards beating a hated side. For this reasons I propose the George W. Bush and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Peace Cup, an annual match between the United States national soccer team and the Iranian national team. It would alternate countries each year with fans traveling both ways thus facilitating cultural exchanges. Most importantly however, the country losing the match will forfeit all rights to proclaim violent annihilation upon the other. If the match ends in the draw, a cricket match will immediately follow with President Bush and President Ahmadinejad each required to bowl.
