Meanwhile, his (Rivaldo) agent insists the ex-Milan striker turned down an offer to join Celtic because he feels Rangers are the bigger club. "One agent has been trying to entice him to Celtic but Rivaldo is not interested in playing in Scottish football," said Peter Harrison. "He thinks Rangers is a bigger club anyway."

Ok Rivaldo, have fun in Bolton.
But honestly, he kinda does have a point. But do not whorry, Rangers of the 2000's will be the Celtic of the 1990's.

    Bolton are a good team.

Gunners11, Bolton have just qualified for the UEFA Cup have they not? D'OH! (P.S. Could be wrong)

Rivaldo would be crazy to go to Celtic. Why come up and play in one of the most monotonous leagues in Europe when you can play for a top half Premiership team and in the UEFA Cup?

I think Rivaldo could do a job for Celtic though. He won a world cup winners medal two years ago FFS. And he was one of the most important players in that Brazil team. He's a cheating wee fu<k but he's got bags of talent.

Celtic have reached a peak I think. They'll get a wee bit worse in the next couple of seasons, still won't be as bad as Rangers mind.

No. They lost the Carling Cup to Boro, who got that spot.

Champions League, chances to get back at AC and Barca

    No

Two years is a lifetime in football, two years ago would you have ever said celtic would be in a uefa cup final and the quarters two seasons respectively?
Naw youd have laughed and said aye right go back to yer irish pub tim and leave the football to english teams like most people who have no ambition in this country do.
Rivaldo is a washed up dud waiting to land on a team with a big wage IMO, and Id rather it wasnt us, for the same money we could get a player with something to prove and something to play for who is the right side of 25.

CoF, Bolton are 7th in the EPL. I think that would qualify for the UEFA Cup.

With Celtic, how many big games do you get a season? The way things are at the moment, you're only talking about European games. And with no UEFA spot for 3rd placed CL teams, Celtic might struggle to stay in Europe after Christmas.

Why do you think Celtic have not reached a peak? Larsson is gone, with no sign of a replacement. All the olders members of the team will be 1 year older. Plus, that team had quite a bit of transfer fee money put into it, will Celtic be able to pay as much for their replacements?

Comparing the rise and fall of a team is different to that of a player. A team can get better or worse but players still have the same talent they always have. I doubt whether Rivaldo is in the right frame of mind to be world class now but the talent will always be there.

I probably would not have thought Celtic would reach the UEFA Cup final, did you think they would? Does that mean I have no ambition?

Fair enough if I was a Celtic fan I wouldn't want to sign Rivaldo I just think he would be capable of doing well for them.

Actually, I believe not. England gets 4 CL spots and 3 UC spots. The CL goes to the top 4, the UC to 5th place, the FA Cup Winner (Millwall gets it), and Carling Cup (Middlesbrough). So 7th won't do it. Unless I'm wrong.

Gordon know what you remind me of, the type of fan sitting in a pub that was convinced blackburn would stuff us, then when larsson was out for the stuttgart tie, we would be finished cos were just a one man team, then after that it was liverpool........blah blah blah

And this squad is not expensively assembled, Quite a bit of it was actually put together as far back as Wim Jansens reign in 98,mjallby was a Dr jo signing, petrov a barnes one, the most expensive player in the squad was chris sutton at 6 million, and he just signed a two year contract extension, but your right, what do we know, were just old firm glory hunters and bolton are much bigger and have much more potential than us

I didn't think Blackburn etc would beat Celtic, quite the opposite and I supported Celtic in Europe, this season and the last. I you looked at my posts coming up to the Barcalona game, I was pretty confident that Celtic would go through.

6 million for Sutton, was Hartson not pretty expensive too? I'm just saying that I didn't think Celtic would have much money to go out and replace some of the players they have at the moment.

I didn't say that Bolton were bigger then Celtic, or have more potential, did I? Anyway, what do you think most of Bolton's better players would say to Celtic if they were offered a contract? I doubt many would accept one.

"what do we know, we're just old firm glory hunters"

I'm glad you're big enough to accept that now.

I know last year the top 4
    ManU
    Arsenal
    Newcastle
    Chelsea

    all recieved Champions League Spots

    the next 2
    Liverpool
    Blackburn

    they recieved UEFA cup spots

Fair Play winner (not exculsive to england)
    Man City
    they recieved a UEFA bid

The FA and League cup winners get a UEFA spot too but last year it was Arsenal and Liverpool so none were given.

Unless the Coefficants changes this year for England it should be
    1 -4.... Champs League
    5-6..... UEFA
    League cup winners(Boro)- UEFA
    FA winners(unless ManU wins)- UEFA

Not quite. If a CL team wins the FA Cup, the spot goes to the beaten finalists. Hence Millwall will make it in this coming year no matter what happens in the final. If a CL/UC team wins the League Cup, then that spot reverts to the Premiership. So with Liverpool winning the LC but not needing the UEFA Cup spot since they finished 5th, it went to 6th place (Blackburn). This year Middlesbrough won and won't make the top 5 so they get the spot.

It may be slightly more complicated than that but I believe that sums it up.

I have seen the light, this post has opened my eyes!
How boring, always 2 teams winning the title, why have I wasted my life supporting celtic.
Piss off you clown, as opposed to what? Arsenal and Man u with the occasional challenge by A.N. Other falling away in march?
Just about every league in the world is dominated by its big clubs, be it 2 or 3 or 4, jesus has anyone wrested the title away from rosenborg for the last decade?
