Tragic news. I know he's no longer a college player, but he was last year and I know a lot of Tar Hell and college soccer fans remember him as he was part of four College Cup teams, including last year's NCAA title. http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/ml...dies-22-year-old-midfielder-mls-columbus-crew Thoughts and condolences go out to his loved ones, particularly his parents. No mom and dad should ever have to bury their kid.
A very sad day in soccer, what a great kid. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike, Sandy and brother Kyle.
Only got to speak to him once, last summer while he was visiting his brother. Have to agree, seemed like a great kid.
Very sad story for a player that helped UNC on the championship run. Thought and prayers go out. From my knowledge there was supposed to be an autopsy done today, but I'm not sure. Anybody aware of the cause of death?
Not the cause, but some circumstances have come to light. Based on this article, it sounds like alcohol may have contributed to the death. http://www.10tv.com/content/stories...runk-person-before-crews-urso-found-dead.html
The article doesn't convince me that alcohol was a factor (I know you only say alcohol may have contributed). It may have been a factor, but there's nothing there from a solid source that indicates he was actually drunk. It may just be that he was at a bar and collapsed and whoever saw him, called 911 described him as "really drunk" because it was in a bar and that's what came to mind given the setting. I recall one time seeing a guy stumbling around a bar and collapse and thinking he was drunk and it turned out he was having a diabetic episode (I'm not suggesting Urso was diabetic or that was the cause, just giving an example of a bar causing me to jump to the wrong conclusion). My point is, we don't know yet. This article suggests that it could have been something other than alcohol related. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/soccer/08/06/urso-death.ap/index.html We'll just have to wait and see. Regardless, my heart goes out to him, his family and everyone who knows him. So awful to lose someone so young so suddenly.
You are 100% correct. It would be impossible to draw a definitive conclusion between alcohol and his death. It will come down to the results of the autopsy. Although the article I linked fills in some of the information void (like where he died) and starts to paint a picture of what preceeded the death, there is still a lot to know.
Philly area reaction. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/philad...rning-death-kirk-urso-fan-034400873--mls.html
