I would not be surprised to hear more non-MAGA Republicans start to criticize Trump. Maybe not here for this specific instance, but for other things, as there seems to be a crack appearing between those in the cult, and those not in the cult.
When you get someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene being praised for saying the kinds of things a normal, decent human being would say, you realize how low the bar has sunk. And of course, Trump has to make everything about him...
I'll say this for Rob Reinier: He had quite the career. Playing Michael Stivic in All In The Family and then having that fantastic run as a director. Love Princess Bride.
Robert J. Samuelson, an economics columnist for Newsweek and The Washington Post who explored, in reader-friendly vernacular, the perils of inflation, the fiscal consequences of entitlement spending and the slow-motion crisis of the bulging national debt, died on Saturday in Bethesda, Md. He was 79. With no formal training in economics, Mr. Samuelson viewed himself as an outsider who translated dense but important policy debates for a broad audience. “I don’t have an economics degree, and I think in some ways that’s a strong point, because I’m always trying to explain things to myself, and if I can explain them to me, I think I could try to explain them to my readers,” he said on the C-SPAN program Q&A in 2010. “I’m not trying to impress economists.”
His first 7 films as a director are better than 99% of directorial careers. This Is Spinal Tap (1984) The Sure Thing (1985) Stand By Me (1986) The Princess Bride (1987) When Harry Met Sally (1989) Misery (1990) A Few Good Men (1992) That's just an insane run for the start of a career directing films.
I’d list FIVE of those as classics (leaving out The Sure Thing and Misery, which was really good, it which nobody brings up anymore.). That’s insane. How many pop culture cliches is that? It goes to 11. Inconceivable! I am Inigo Montoya…. You keep using that word…. The restaurant fake orgasm scene followed by I’ll have what she’s having You can’t handle the truth! I never put it together until I saw this list. Dude is responsible for half a dozen of the top memes around.
This'n really hurts. Among the greatest performers I ever saw, up there with Keith Richards, Miles Davis, Emmylou Harris... Joe Ely, 78, Parkinson's, Lewy Body, and pneumonia. Be a lot of sad drinks shared tonight. "The street lights on main street got my number, Some gal up in some hotel's got my shoes. But I still got my last bottom dollar. Lucky me, I never lost more than I can lose." "I keep wishin' for you, I keep wishin' for you more than you'd ever do for yourself I keep wishin' for you..." "Please understand me everything's all right I just musta notta gotta lotta sleep last night." "I'm goin" out where the lights don't shine so bright-- When I get back you can treat me like its Saturday night." Later maybe I'll post my Joe Ely story if I remember; right now I just want to say "we'll leave the light on for you Joe."
It will take them having them, at a minimum….until their primaries are too close for comfort to break. Ans even then I am doubtful. They’ll just play a prevent defense after running up the score knowing full well they’ve bought the refs for the next several decades and their opponents are too chickenshit to reform the referee committee
That’s nice and all. Will those same Republicans do anything about it? Or will they just keep their heads down and grumble about having no choice but to vote for everything Trump wants?
Well one quit and the other one forced the Epstein discharge petition…so the answer is yes….both of the republicans that have actually gone on record stating what a vile piece of shit trump is will do something. As for the rest? They ain’t gonna do shit.
I guess, if you're going to be on one of those stupid things, maybe Twitter is less of an unhinged echo chamber than either Truth Social or Bluesky?
Indiana already had a majority of Republican state senators vote down the Trump supported gerrymandering of voting districts. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/12/11/indiana-republicans-redistricting-vote-trump-00687714
Yes, I think. You'll get all the echo chambers on that one while the other two exclude anyone who disagrees with them. They all suck, but that one sucks more equally for everyone.
That is what is happening? Someone is kicking off accounts just for posting differing opinions? Truth Social is the same as BlueSky? You truly think these things, or are you just unfamiliar with how any of these things work?
Are you on Xwitter? When getting into politics, it gets really unhinged and conspiratorial. Because I want to know what is going on, I take a look at things trending (and sometimes local), and man, is there a lot of antisemitism, racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. You may think the bluesky echo chamber is bad, but it doesn't do hate of minorities...usually.
Yeah, I used to be on both Twitter and then BlueSky; I quit the former because of Musk and how toxic it was becoming; I quit the latter because I realized it was still a social media platform and that meant the more I used it, the more it would lead to diminishing returns and too much scrolling for the next fix. I honestly think you would have to deliberately curate a BlueSky feed to get one as toxic and reality-denying as any Twitter feed would turn out to be just by design.
All social media is an echo chamber. That's the best it's designed. I get Ukraine propaganda on YouTube because I watch Ukraine propaganda. If I watched Russian propaganda I'd her pro-Russia recommendations.
