I saw one article that said that since that day, she slept sitting up with a light on. American racism is somethin else, innit?
Although the last thirty, forty years the recoil alone might have been more lethal to her than the shot to someone else. If she wasn't in much better condition at 74 than I am, that is...
111. I'm sure she was reared to see suicide as a sin, but man, living that long in America had to be a trip. Blessed is deliverance. There was a time when I wanted to know what it would be like to reach 100. Not anymore. I expect America to be even more unliveable going forward than it is now.
Fuzzy Zoeller. Pro golfer known mostly for his racist response to what Tiger would have for the Masters Champions Dinner. Personal story. I was in Charlotte for business in the early 2000’s and snuck in a round after my meetings. Playing by myself. PGA tour was in town that week but it was Tuesday so some pros were around but weren’t doing much. I was playing a resort course near where the event was that had hotels surrounding the 18th hole. I hit a bad tee shot and had to lay up on a par 4. Dude in a robe was on the balcony of the hotel, yelled down “$100 you can’t make par!” I took the bet, hit my chip to around 10 feet and made the putt. Dude dropped a glass with the bill secured with a rubber band into the grass and said no one will believe I won $100 off Fuzzy Zoeller.
He dropped the glass with the cash and went back into his room. I absolutely would have had him sign it if I had the chance.
Certainly a lot of Asian players, but also guys like Vijay Singh, Sahith Theegala, Akshay Bhatia, Tony Finau, Aaron Rai and more and more Hispanic players.
Can Sarah the National Guards woman go on this. Looking at the way her death is being used now, it all feels a bit Franz Ferdinand.
And the other crappy part? Given the changes to the $100 bill (large head, now no frame and fancier designs), if it was a "small head" bill, it might have been worth holding on to. ...somewhere I have a $10 bill from 1950 and a "small head" $20. I'm sure they're still worth exactly that in trade value, but I'm gonna hold on to them. (Not mine, but note the words on the bottom.)
Vijay Singh is 62 and was the European #1 before joining the US tour. Also I'm not sure Asians are black.
Yes, there are a number of good East & South Asians on the tour. We're talking African-American. And don't come back with Ernie Els.
Vijay is not Black. You know that. He's dark, yes, and walking thru a White part of town with a shaved head (predators don't see his straight hair) might give him some insight into a Black man's life, but he does not receive daily feedback on the White opinion of him.
I defer to your opinion on that, but he isn't white either, which was the way this tangent got started.
